The only channels that I watch at the moment are available on Freeview/Freesat, so I've just handed in 31 days notice with Sky and I'm on the lookout for a PVR which will give me the same sort of capabilities that I currently have with my Sky + box.

I'm way behind the rest of the world and still have my old 36" tv taking up half my room, so HD isn't a priority at the moment, although as it's about ten years old, that could change any day.

On the whole, I love the Sky + box, especially the series link, which I use a lot, so the new PVR will have to be very reliable in this department. I obviously have all the equipment, so it will need to be a twin tuner PVR, so I can tape two programmes or be able to record two and watch another, not sure if any can do that at the moment.

I've been looking at the Humax Foxsat HDR and wondered if that's the best out there, or should I be looking at something else?

Cheers.

You`ll find, nothink really offers you the same as a sky+ /hd box gives you. The Humax however isnt too bad for a freeview pvr. Just takes time getting used to it. Im too lazy to give up my sky hd boxes and the way they work for me, but i do think the box youve picked is a decent option.

I think that the Humax is about the top of the Freeview PVR tree, unless you fancy using Windows Media Center, which is a very real alternative.

The Humax Foxsat HDR can be had for £200 from Amazon, and can be upgraded to 1TB just by swapping the HDD.

That's a freesat box though. If you want Freeview then the model number is slightly different, but Humax do an equally impressive version.

The humax will auto-prompt you if you record something that's also available in HD :)

Since you get more channels with Freesat, plus I already have the dish etc up, I might as well go the Humax route I think.

Plus, as I'll have to upgrade the tv sooner, rather than later, the HD should be a requirement as well.

Ordered the Humax, let's see if it's any good.:)

I prefer the Topfield PVR for flexibility and features (apart from HD) and Tvonics for user friendliness. There's no perfect box on the market though.

I went with the Humax Foxsat HDR in the end and am very impressed with it so far.

I have encountered one problem though, I am recording a lot of programmes, to try the box out and tonight I have two programmes being recorded from 2000 to 2100 on BBC1 and BBC2 and was trying to record two programmes from 2100 to 2200 on ITV and BBC1.

When I try to series record the programme at 2100 on BBC1, I get a conflict of reservation with the two programmes already recording at 2000, stating that they are running from 2100 to 2200.

The schedule is fine, with the programmes showing up properly, as does the info on the programmes, so how come this happens and is it a regular occurrence?

I am in the same boat as you. I currently have Sky+ and no longer want to pay the monthly bill so am looking at the Foxsat HDR. My original Sky+ dish and feeds will work right?

They work perfectly mate, just plug in the same cables and you're off.
