From cat 9.12 to 10.9

Is it worth me uninstalling 9.12 and installing 10.9? Everything works like a charm, but am I likely to gain anything worthwhile for my 4870, or is it only really beneficial for 5xxx cards?

High idle clocks only affect 5000 series I would have thought? PowerPlay works differently for 4000 afaik. Plus it's not a bug but workaround for multi-monitor users. It unfortunately affects everyone that does overclock though. You can always use MSI Afterburner with 2D/3D profiles or overflash the BIOS. Or create profiles for Catalyst, etc. There's also plenty of people who won't notice a thing so it really only is a problem if you want it to be.

Catalyst 10.9a with 10.9 Application Profiles work best for me, give them a try No problems with any games, fast loading times in BFBC2. No BSODs on start-up/install/during games.

^^No, idle clocks on my 4870x2 saw an increase of around 10C. Forget which driver now but anything after 10.4 iirc. 10.9's didn't do this but I went back to 10.4 due to other instabilities.

Ok, I uninstalled 9.12 and used driver sweeper to clean properly. 10.9 installed fine and even gave me slightly higher benchmark scores.

But, just one of my old point 'n click games wasn't displaying the graphics/text properly in the load saved game menu. I put 9.12 back and it's fine again. Very odd.

Did you try both 10.9 and 10.9a? See if they make a difference.

BTW, you don't have to uninstall at all, certainly not using Driver Sweeper (unless you have/feel a need to). Going from the older drivers you can install simply over the top, if you want to revert, you can uninstall using Catalyst Installer (I recommend Custom and selecting what components you want to uninstall). If you're using Win 7, it would be best to uninstall twice in safe mode to make sure none components are left (Windows 7 reverts to the previous working driver when you uninstall a driver) but do it only if you have any problems with an install.

Still no go. It's odd, it's only this one, old, game (Nostradamus) I'm having problems with.

However now, when I'm back on 9.12, although this game works properly, quakelive doesn't work anymore, where it did before I uninstalled it. So 10.9 allows me to play quakelive, and 9.12 allows me to play the other game. It's not a massive problem since I can always swap between 9.12 and 10.9 when I want to continue nostradamus. But it's not ideal, and I shouldn't need to do that. Maybe I should try another catalyst.

Just installed 10.4a. Works perfectly for both games.Thanks!
I'll stick with these now and won't bother with updating to further cats, might mess things up again.

I have a 4870x2 and went from 10.6 (which I had no porblems) to 10.9 and now I'm having trouble with the card not increasing clocks from 2d to 3d so I would say don't bother going any further than 10.6 IMO.
