I want to connect my phone to my pc power switch so that when it rings my pc turns on. Any idea how to do this? (Don't suggest WOL).

I nearly had it
I think you remove the speaker and connect the + and - of the circuit board to your power switch wires. Then when you ring it it should turn on.
I broke the keypad though so cant turn it off silent :(

well the remove speaker approach would have been my suggestion.

Im curious as to why you want to do this. In fact...

*scurries off and finds old phone*

relay? phones speaker connections power the relay (or something along those lines) and this makes your switch on pc..

well, anything that sends out a pulse when the phone rings. now that i think about it, the vibrator motor would probably be a better bet.

i hope this is not directly advising bomb making...

the next morning
a fellow forum member of ocuk has threatened to blow up a bus if he doesnt get a system to play crysis on enthusiast settings :D

just wasnt sure of the terminology didnt now u wanted it to work over the net

edit: was going to say write some software (for the phone) to wake the pc up over usb, but if its an old nokia im guessing this wont work

my girlfriend had this working about 7 years ago, in error i might add!

we were at uni and her computer kept turning on randomly, sometimes at night sometimes early morning. we eventually figured out she had her modem plugged into the telephone socket (for dial up internet) but whenever someone rang the telephone number for her room the pc switched on!

this was with old hardware, at least 10 years old, and it may have even been faulty hardware as i didnt think it was even possible till we tried it for ourselves and it worked!
