I'm a budget gamer and i have finally decided to get rid of my old 8500gt. The replacement will be a gts450, which i will take sli as my budget allows.
Is this the right course or should i go for the 460 and pay the extra dosh, all i seem to play is WoW and the new Old Republic MMO when it comes out.

I would have thought the 5770 is better bang for the buck at that price. If you are prepared to go up to £130-ish then the 460 768MB is a better bet. But for £100 you should really get a 5770.

£129 MSI GTX460 768 or £165 Gigabyte GTX460 1024.

I'd take a single GTX460 1024 over SLI GTS450 any day of week, personally.

Thanks for the replies, so unsure at times, the 460 does look a good proposition and ready to SLI when the budget allows.

Pay the extra £20... the extra money your paying = more than £20 worth of performance, so its defo worth it.

The 460 (1gb) is a very competitive graphics card from benchmarks I'v seen.

Dont sell your self short for the sake of £20

Having been on a budget that was not really stretchable last time I built, I understand that getting something like the 450 might be attractive.

However, you still have an alternative that will do. And the 450 is generally poor compared to its competitors that it feels a little futile to really drop money on it. Why not keep what you have and save up for card that offers more bang for your buck? I could almost understand it if you had nothing and you needed to spend your money right now, but seeing that you have alternate routes you should consider investing in a better deal, even if that means having to make do with what you have for the time being and getting a bigger, better and more future friendly upgrade down the line.

In about 2-3 weeks we "should" see the release of the 6770. Depending on how it performs, it could knock down the 460 1gb price by a fair bit. I would wait for that instead.

Orcvader, how reliable is that for the release of the mid-range 6 series card?
We're looking at upgrading a mates rig in a week or so, something around the 5770 - 5830 (or NV equivalent) was what we'd looked at so far.

If it's really that close to the 6770 then we'll hold off!

If that is the case it fits in with my timescale, which would be a bonus.

And the latest news is a release of an nvidia 430 and a price drop on the 460 so its all looking well for me.
