UFC 119: Mir vs. Cro Cop

Why is everyone hating on Guillard? He fought an excellent fight, and wasn't tapping Stephens he hit him hard but Stephens has a solid chin.

Stephens is known for his power, so why would Guillard risk an exchange with him? He fought an intelligent fight, much like Frankie did against BJ.

There isn't many other ways to beat a granite chinned, iron fisted opponent if you choose to stand with them, you have to out point them.

The last two fights were appalling, especially the Cro-Cop vs Mir fight, one of the worst main events I've ever seen. The Sherk vs Dunham fight was good, and so was the Lytle vs Serra fight, other than that it was a pretty boring card. I can't wait for UFC 121 though, that Brock vs Cain fight is going to be epic, though I can't see Brock losing his belt.

I dislike him as hes like Rashad, too much prancing around - in/out run away, run around, quick jab, run away, etc. Hes awful to watch. Technically yes, very good technique. Thats all. Same with Machida - like watching paint dry.

Still - it beats doing a true Rashad and taking him down and lying on him for 15 minutes.

On the contrary, I will be LUMPING on a big win for Cain. Pac 10 div champion, 2 time Div 1 NCAA champion, and a MUCH better stand up than Lesnar.

At last, the voice of reason!

Valasquez has better adapted wrestling to MMA, go watch any of Cain's fights and watch look at how many times his take downs have been stuffed, and also check out where he lands after a takedown, he is never in guard.

He also wrestled in the same weight category as Lesnar so I am sure he is used to wrestling big big dudes.

I like Cain for this fight, it's just his jaw worries me. Kongo rocked him what 5 odd times? I'm sure if Lesnar lands he could be in trouble.

I'm definitely cheering him on though.

Indeed.

Good thing for Cain is, Brocks standup is genuinely horrible, I don't see him landing anything.

Brocks best chance in this fight is what he always does, smother his opponent with size. If Cain can keep away from the takedown, it's going to be a seriously long night for Brock.

I just think we are going to see a much better Brock. condition, stand up and control.

No doubt he will have improved, but i'm deffinitely putting my money on his stand up still being horrible.

I think he will have improved all areas of his game slightly, but i agree that his hands will be pretty poor still and nowhere near Cain's.

That being said i think Lesnar will have enough about him to get the takedown and GnP Cain into the canvas.

it's not if he gets a takedown it's more when, it's a 5 round fight so you can assume you will land at least a few takedowns. The question is can Cain get back up without taking too much damage, if he can get up at all.

If Cain can take it into the deep waters of the 4th and 5th I think he can outwork Lesnar.

I don't think he can KO Lesnar it's going to be a decision if anything.

JDS on the other hand, when he gets a shot if Lesnar is still champion I see a KO.

I think Cain can KO him and will (Optimistic!). If JDS cant KO Big Country with those shots then i doubt he can do Brock.

I don't quite know what Brock has shown that make him such a huge favourite in this fight.

In his last fight he showed he hates getting hit and panics, look at the uppercut Carwin lands, it's only glancing but Brock back pedals just covering up, but his chin is good, just like Tito Ortiz.

His wrestling isn't anything special IMO, he struggled to take down a 45yr old 220lb Randy Couture, Couture actually stuffed a few takedowns and very nearly had one of his own.

The only reason he beat Carwin was because of Carwins lack of cardio / Carwins steroid abuse which caused his muscles to lock up. Carwin stuffed Brocks takedown in the first round if I remember correctly too, before he was gassed.

The only time Cain has looked vulnerable is when he was standing with Cheick Kongo, but in that fight he proved he also has a granite chin, and Brocks striking is no way near Kongos level. Since that fight Cain has clearly focused a lot on stand up and his hands where very fast, technical and powerful in KO'ing Big Nog.

Cain has the best wrestling in the heavyweight division IMO, just check out his fights and how effortless his takedowns have been, arguably though not against the best wrestlers in the division.

Decided this was more relevant here.

Anyone see the interviews with Sean 'The Curtain Jerker' McCorkle? He's a funny guy!

Before and after fight

Yeah I agree with pretty much all comments, was a lackluster night, I think the line up was fantastic and with that amount of top contenders how could it fail... and it did lol

I think people were just put to sleep since we didnt see anyone really go at it or open up. People clearly wanted too see Blood and War and definatly a few knockouts !
Even Joe Rogan/commentating said with Mir fight, is anyone actually gonna open up and fight lol, disapointed more with Mir being a fan even ! Mir should stop eating his veg and eat meat and get back to his fighting roots. I thought his stand up was good but this was just embarrising.

I think during the fight after the last round when mir pressed crocop against the fence both said shall we go to ground or something ? It was cos the crowds had been booing for 10 minutes... I think it was only then they actually opened up and started to both fight and hence the knee came out of no where lol

I think this is a good point a lot of the fights in ufc lately seem to be about control/defence and little fighting/risk taking and its started too make the ufc fighters look bland ! No one wants too loose they just want big pay packets and hopefully someone makes one small mistake and its over... problem is no ones making much if any mistakes!
