LOTRO now free to play!

It's meant to be, there are a few rumours going around that the europe servers will shut and we will shipped over to turbine/usa, and this is what the hold up is for.
These are just rumours though ;)

Those rumours have already been denied officially by codemasters devs though.

Id like to try this game, can I get the american free game and play on american servers?

Does the game check your ip for its location?

summit weird going on .. upgraded to the full version .. my account shows next payment due 20/10/10 but account as closed :(

Hmm...quite enjoying this, even for a casual MMO as i'm not too seriously into dedicating half my life into it :p

Tailoring is quite fun, and just generally following any old story line, so i'll keep going for a bit :)

Re-subbed, never had a problem with this MMO in the first place - can't quite even remember why I left, think it was to play EVE or something. Anyway good to be back! :D

That happened to me at one point, when my trial moved over to full sub. I emailed them and got a completely nonsense reply back which basically said "Buy some game time", like they didn't even read what I was saying.

I was able to log in normally the next day, though.

I have been playing this on and off for the past week or so, the 14 day trial will end in the next few days and i feel that i am going to keep playing.

I was hoping that it would have gone free to play by now but obviously it hasnt, so what options do i have?

1) Pay the subscription until it is free to play?

2) Keep starting new trials and trying new class combinations?

3) Stop playing and then pick it up again when its F2P

what do you think?

Also i am not sure how relevant it is but i am playing the fully patched battle of mirkwood version but i am sure i read elsewhere that F2P was only available on the first expansion.

Please excuse my ignorance in the above matter.

Free to play is only up to level 50, and only for the 'classic' content - everything prior to Moria. That means you also can't play as a warden or runekeeper, access Moria, Lothlorien or Mirkwood.

If you manage to pick up the game, including the moria and mirkwood expansions, before the game goes f2p, you keep access to the expansions. This from the faq :

"When LOTRO Free-to-Play becomes available you will still be able to access the content and features of any expansions you have previously purchased. Whether you are a VIP or a Premium player, the content and features of these expansions will be available to you in their entirety.

If you decide not to join the VIP program or decide to downgrade to Premium player status, the content and features of these expansions will still be available to you. You will still be able to play your Rune-keeper and Warden characters as long as they are in character slots you have selected or have unlocked by visiting the LOTRO Store."

I would be inclined , finances permitting, to go for option 1. You could subscribe for just 1 month (as I would be surprised if f2p wasnt here within another month), and cancel the subscription after the 1 month. Would have the bonus that you would then be playing f2p, but instead of just being a f2p player you would actually be a premium player and gain the extra benefits from that.

How much is a months membership then? As I believe my client was the Seige of Mirkwood version...

So i'm screwed if it goes F2p like, now :p

Thats the route i was going to go with, however am i right in thinking i have to buy the game and its expansions and then pay for the subscription as well?
