Hi there

Right guys OCZ have landed themselves a real gem here. They are now doing 3.5" versions of the amazing 2.5" Vertex 2E drives. These drives offer the same performance as the 2.5" models on 90-360GB sizes. Due to reduced manufacturing cost on the 3.5" means these drives mean they come in substancially cheaper. Plus the new design allows upto 480GB Capacity.

So in a nutshell:-
- Same performance as 2.5" Vertex 2E
- Increased value for money
- More suitable for desktop PC's (no need for brackets)
- YOU SAVE MONEY!
- Available upto 480GB Capacity!

So here they are:-

So if you have a desktop PC which most of you have, buy one these instead, they cost less for the same performance and are easier to install. Obviously these will not fit into laptops. ;)

I was waiting for something like this... Might just have to buy one soon. :D Ultra-cheap might be pushing it a bit though. ;)

The 480gb is a lot slower and much more expensive than buying two faster 240gb SSDs. Is the price just due to the amount of space crammed in?

Yep, other 480GB SSD's cost over £1000 though, so in comparison these are ultra-cheap.

hmm....Do I get myself the 90gb one and give my 60gb 2E to the wife

or wait untill the 60gb drops a tenner to £99.99

anyone cloned a SSD to SSD ok?

Are this improved upon in any way; like better firmware/drivers/raid support etc than the original vertex. I want to move to SSD but don't want the hassles of degradation and all the other technicalities

The Intel X25-M G2 is a great drive though. Fantastic access times and 4K random performance. I actually don't know if the Vertex SSDs are any faster in this regard to be honest. They use different benchmarks to gather the data - but I'll admit I don't know a lot about them (despite wanting to buy one to go with my X25-M). I'm sure people here can provide some benchmarks using AS SSD for comparison.

they have up to date firmware and have all the same features as a regular vertex2. there is no degredation due to the trim command on windows 7

Gah just as I commit to a 160gb G2 intel for £220.
dont worry, the intel is a fantastic drive, i have two and they have been superb. the difference between these and that will be hard to notice in real terms.

Not bad, coming closer to £1 per gigabyte.... I am quite tempted by the 120gig, that would be plenty of space for me.

thats the thing, until you have an SSD you take storage capacity for granted.
my work pc has a 30gb vertex1 in it and the limited space means that i keep my install of windows very tidy. ;)

lol mate! You just saved me from that.

Shall be ordering one of these in the next few days.

Nice and subtle, thanks. Lets just hope to decides to keep it haha.

Thanks, makes me feel slightly better. Just a shame I'm a moron.

Just noticed the 240gb is more than two 120Gb, how is that? :/

Also Gibbo, can you get a 180Gb version?

180GB - OCZSSD3-2VTX180G This PLEASE!!! £250 give or take and you would have me at an instant!
