OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1333
£57.99 inc
Hello Liampope
Firstly I'm not sure you are being addressed here unless your name is Peter_C or Mayfair? . . . but as you feel strongly enough about this subject to put finger to keyboard I will indulge you . . .
So we should all simply ignore fairly widespread reports of DOA, instability, not running at rated timings, and just recommend the cheapest possible parts, so as to avoid scaremongering?
What facts are you working from? . . . how do you define what number of people constitutes a "fairly widespread reports of DOA" before you feel there is a genuine problem? . . . how do you define what number of people have to have a problem with " instability, not running at rated timings" before you feel there is a genuine problem?
Did you personally have a problem with OCZ gold or do you just feel you have a right to exert an authority over which products people should or should not choose based on intuition or little or no experience or in fact hearsay?
If 1460 units of OCZ gold are sold and 126 units are returned due to the end user having an issue they were unable to resolve does this "justify" the fact that we should not recommend what is an affordable product?
Word of mouth should be supressed?
No that's just you putting words in my mouth!
One should question each case individually to ascertain what the problem could be instead of just repeating something "Parrot Fashion" that somebody told you that someone else told them, that someone else told them, that someone else told them (rinse & repeat) . . .
Condemnation without thorough investigation is the highest form of ignorance, therefore anyone who Condems a product without really looking into the situation is making an ignorant comment . . .
Clever people learn from their mistakes.
I agree!
Really clever people learn from other people's mistakes.
I disagree . . . really clever people actually ask questions to find out more details and "examine" a situation carefully instead of just accepting "facts" at face value . . . there is always two sides to a coin . . . is the person who is telling you something experienced, patient and knowledgeable or are they inexperienced, not very knowledgeable and basically "ranting"
For your information the problem with the OCZ gold is quite simple Liam . . . the [SPD] settings on most of them have been programmed for 1.5vDimm . . . the labels on them state 1.65vDimm . . . The website states 1.65vDimm . . . what do you think the problem is?
[Off Topic]
Not quite sure how that fits in with this forum's expensive PSU OCD

. Surely we should all accept the reality that millions of PCs around the world are running just fine on <£10 PSUs, and therefore recommend the cheapest in the shop? Relating stories of the odd cheap PSU exploding in a ball of flames would just be scaremongering and should not be allowed, right?
Not really sure where your going with this or in fact what it has to do with the specific situation we are discussing
With regards to PSU's I personally recommend the most affordable branded 80 PLUS Program Modular PSU's available as these generally work well, pull less electric from the socket, have good steady rails which help keep a system and overclock stable, have a good 3-5 year warranty, make a tidier case easier etc . . .
