HTC Desire HD (Ace)

I am fully expecting to overclock my DesireZ to be same (or faster) than the HD as it supposed to be the same chip just underclocked (although this could all be speculation as only hands on time so far appears to be at the London demo).

And I'm fully expecting to replace its stock battery with a 3200mAh one that'll come with a massive, bulgy replacement back cover that'll ruin its sleek good looks!:D

Shame the iPhones aren't on there.

iPhone 4, if it happened to be running android and quadrant would probably come just above the droid x.

Amazing there are such massive differences between phones all based on the same OS and all running variations of an ARM A8 core!

Remember quadrant also looks at the gpu and nand flash performance.

I've just been thinking, I wonder how hard it will be to root the Desire HD/Z considering how difficult they made it with the original Desire.

Could be a tough battle for the XDA/Modaco folks.

Considering the Desire Z (T-Mobile G2) will become the next top end vanilla android phone in the US, I doubt it will be long.

Ah, didn't know that, and also assumed that since those CPUs are actually SOCs that they'd share similar GPUs too - is that not the case?
Still impressive how much higher the Samsungs score! Those Koreans sure can build them! (shame they can't release OS updates for them...)

I thought the Desire was quite easy to crack? How long did it take?

Those quadrant scores are interesting, the Z has similar performance to the standard desire. Battery life should be much improved! (hopefully :))

They've got different chips, the z has the msm7230 and the HD has a qsd82(something), most Qualcomm samples had these running at 1ghz for the msm and 1.3ghz for the qsd. Both have the same gpu and 45nm process so performance won't be too different in most real world applications.

When can we expect reviews? The more I read about these phones, the more I want to buy one - just want to get the verdict on the battery.

Still looking to get the hd, does anyone know if vodafone still allow you to reduce the tarrif after so many months? Is this any different with a 24 month contract.

I also found a good deal with 8 months half price by redemption, does this mean they calculate the 8 months half price and split it over the months so your paying less line rental each month?

How about this for the best HD/contract deal?

> Quidco, £50 cashback.
> Buy Samsung Tocco lite from moblies.co.uk (Orange Dolphin 25 plan: 300mins, unlimited texts, 500MB)
> Get 23 months free on mobiles redemption
> Recycle Tocco for £40 (At this point you're £65 in credit :p)
> Buy sim free Desire HD for £450-£470

Final cost = £385, or £16pm...

Can anyone do any better? :D

If you're happy to pay that much money upfront, then yeh its great.

Initial outlay is £450 - (quidco and sale of tocco) = £360. Then you probably have to wait till month 6 before the redemptions come rolling in.

I just saw the tocco deal and found it funny how you end up earning money by using it :D

Yep, these types of deals used to plentiful a few years back. My first 2 contracts were in fact 100% redemption deals with decent phones (k750i and then w810i, good phones at the time) via e2save. Since these were when 12 month contracts existed, they were much easier.
