Karl Pilkington - An Idiot Abroad

EXACTLY and that is for the whole show too.
If people think that every scene is 'first and only take' then they are mistaken.
Karl will even have plenty of time to re-script what he says to give more impact.
Now Jambo, try convincing others in this thread that it wasn't first take.

No but I don't mean every single scene. It will happen a lot more with scenes that only involve Karl or Karl with Ricky and Stephen. Like in the office, on the phone and stuff.

The stuff that is out and about involving members of the public will probably be first time. I don't think it is as scripted as you think dmpoole.

I tell you what though, this is the first time I can ever remember that a comedian/normal idiot has caused so much debate over whether they're for real or are actually clever.
The punter is in 1 of 3 camps:

1) He makes it all up
2) He does have a weird look on life but purposely exaggerates and takes all the badgering for comedy effect
3) He really is a fool

I'm in camp 2.

Well, that's largely down to your arguing on the matter. Nobody else seems to share your view.

the Great Wall part dragged on a little but it was still mostly funny nonetheless.

Wait, did you miss the point of the show?

Karl was visiting China to see the Great Wall. Thats why he followed it, everything else was but a sub-plot....

Stop RIGHT there one second!!! Do I sense even the slightest flicker of uncertainty from the once concrete opinions of Mr Poole? I think I do and my patience has been rewarded.

What happened to 'Karl is an actor, his personality a mere creation. He reads scripts and performs exactly what Ricky and Steve write for him and is actually a very intelligent man' Hmmmmmmm??

So you agree now that the content its self is derived not from R&S but from Karls 'Weird look on life'? Whether it is purposely exaggerated or not, that is completely irreverent.

No, if you look back on this thread I have always believed he's had a weird outlook on life and writes such things down.
In the studio he collaborates with Merchant/Gervais and the character is formed.
I could take you to at least 5 people now who would look at things like Karl but they wouldn't have the punchlines and that is what sets him apart from being an idiot.

Enjoyed last night's episode. Not quite as funny as China, but still very amusing. Not sure I could do that with my knob though

I don't care how its put together, its a funny show. Only thing that makes me cringe is Shovefaces laughter.

"ensuite shed" had me in stiches.

Watched this last night in a mate's house (too cheap to have Sly :D) and it's a pretty entertaining show but it does seem staged in places but because of the first point I don't really mind that. Only issue is that I really can't stand Merchant's laughter!
