Ok, I can't be the only person to have ever been in this situation.

Gf has a new car, we rang her insurance company and paid a bit more to remove her from the Clio and insure the new one.

The Clio, which we still have at present, needs new Tax. GF went online and it says the car is no longer on the insurance database.

Obviously, we still have the original insurance certificate which shows the Clio insurnace expires next year (but this is obviously invalid)

I propose that I could probably get away with walking into a post office with that and walking away with a nice shiny new tax disc, but what is legal way of doing this with no cost / least cost?

I'm trying to think of a situation where you would want to tax and vehicle but not have it insured.
If it's totally off road then it needs neither tax or insurance.
If it's "on the road" it requires both tax and insurance.

So in answer to your question - I don't know what the legal way would be as I honestly cannot see the situation arrising.

But of course I could be missing something.

You wouldn't tax it before selling though, if you didn't sell it in 6 months its a waste...

Because a prospective buyer can't then legally test drive it without tax

(although I'm not sure whether the car also needs to be insured by the owner for someone to drive in on their own 'insured to drive other cars' insurance).

This is it. The car is kept in a locked garage. Its tax is due and we wanted to put it on to make the car a little more appealing. I don't want to have to insure it as well though.

But with more and more insurance comanies now saying that a car has to be insured before you can use your "Any Car" feature (if your buyer has that feature at all) you ay find that nobody can test drive your uninsured car.

I'm sure some people will buy without a test drive - I know I wouldn't.
