15 years ago today Sony launched the PSone in the EU.

See how many games you can name.

List is in the youtube description page.

Never felt the same love for PlayStation after the original console which was phenomenal at the time. I've owned them all since, but none of them have ever had the same magic.

The PS1 was probably the best console to be released (Dreamcast comes a very close second). A phenomenal catalogue of games, and Sony's first system meant it was new IP after new IP unlike its tiring competitors. Everyone was willing to give pretty much any title a chance as well, as there weren't any internet or easily distributed mass media back then.

Nowadays it's all sequels and metacritic scores. It's always been a machine fuelled by profit margins and expectant figures for shareholders; but back then it was well hidden from view.

And to celebrate this they are going to give PS3/PSP owners a special something to say thank you for using the product?

Wow didn't realise that my birthday is the same date that the Playstation brand launched, sick.

Sony, send a little present my way please, i've been with you since the start.

Sega under-estimated Sony. Afterall, Sony were a company that made CRT TV's with a 2 colour menu system. Sega were one of the two main console developers. Panasonic failed. Philips failed. Sony took games consoles out of back-street game/geek shops and put them in HMV with a big crowd around the display model watching people play Ridge Racer. Well done, they remain there today. When the PS1 first came about, most gamers had a Megadrive, SNES or Amiga. It was a massive jump. Commodore's CD-32 looked pathetic next to a Playstation. Even as a long-term Amiga user I had to say that at the time.

There was nothing bad about the Saturn apart from the PS1 being more popular. For me, the N64 is a strange one. It's always mentioned as a favourite retro console but I don't remember it that way. The things I remember about N64 are that, the release games were some of the best games it ever had. Driving games always lacked any detail compared to the CD console versions. after being stuck on '16-bit' for so long, the 32-bit PS1/Saturn offered amazing gaming. Soon after the N64 offered 64-bit gaming. A lot of people rushed out and bought one but soon went back to the PS1. Finally, It was released at £250, soon reduced to £150 and then reduced to £99. It was even on watchdog:p. I did have an N64 but it was bought from a friend with a tesco carrier bag full of games. Can't remember the price.

I bought and loved the ps1 when the saturn died a unmarketed death but nothing on the ps1 came close to the launch titles on the saturn imho.

Still considering it was not tipped to do that well the Ps1 had a remarkable long life.

I got an n64 instead and stuck with it (never forget the day my cousin showed me the 3d graphics and I bugged my parents for months about it as my pc couldn't really compare to goldeneye!)

Wish I had a ps1 though as some games I feel I missed out on quite a bit, final fantasy is one of the ones I just feel a bit old for now... :( (still will give 7 and 9 a bash at some point). Did though end up playing most ps1 games on my launch ps2 :D (mainly as ssx was the only good launch title)
