Musicians who deserve the title Genius?

I for one have no problem with Eminem and Mozart being tagged under the genius label. Eminems raps continually impress me with the whole creativeness thing and Mozarts melodies are like pure truth in a world of lies.

However Clapton and B B King? Give me a break, they play the blues, and they are both highly highly overrated. I just don't see it!

Just because he was born into wealth idoesn't mean he died with it at the age of 35.
He was barely able to keep his family fed and his wife left him at one point.
 
I object to Eminem being called a genius. He might be good with a pen and can rap to a decent degree but he is no genius.

So...you can't be a genius if you play the blues, is that it?
 
i will say springsteen again.

only been mentinoned once, plays writes and i could be argued a genius depending on criteria.


if were looking at talent though got to also mention other than those already flagged kirk hammet. brilliant guitarist.
 
I would have to be somewhat uncool and say Mozart, Beethoven, Händel , Bach, and all the rest of those whose music is still being listened to hundreds of years later (wonder if anyone from now will still be listened to in 300 years time)

And on a more modern note, Jean Michel Jarre who is simply incredible imo.
 
I would have to say Hans Zimmer!

Given this man has won four Grammy awards amongst the many others, composed the musical score for over a hundred movie's and has been ranked Number 72 on the list of the "Top 100 living geniuses", published by The Daily Telegraph.

If you YouTube his name you'll see just how many movies he's worked on. Here's a few his masterpieces imo:

Not sure about that list of living geniuses, it looks like a list of "most successful people currently in their field."
