I'm going to Ireland next week through work by myself and have never been before. I'll be going from mon - thurs and will be going to Cork and Waterford.

I'm obviously going to have a Guiness when over there, is there anything else you would recommend to do, bearing in mind I will be travelling to work on tue and wed morning

Just bring a heap of money as it's bloody expensive. And a coat/umbrella.

I would also advise you to stay stay reasonably sober, as the accent in Cork is VERY hard to understand. And don't get involved in any bar/street fights as the local cops are next to useless.

Guinness

As has been said, bring a lot of money. It's ridiculously expensive.

I went to cork once for a Interview , got lost afterwards looking for somewhere nice to eat, one of the few city's I've been to I've felt safe still walking around at night time being lost. I did find somewhere nice to eat in the end :)

Cork is strangley one of 2 places in Ireland where i didnt feel safe, that said my freinds took me into a bar that was abit "rebel" and they werent big fans of the english.

The other place was my GF at the times parents house, they spent 2 hours telling me all the horrible things the english had done in Ireland.

Things to do in Cork? Go see Pfizer they make all the Viagra for Europe in cork or at least they used to.

I just got back from doing a lap of Ireland in 10 days. As someone else go to the Blarney Stone. Well, maybe don't bother with that - but at least go to Blarney. Couple of good pubs, nice little village. Cork is not my favourite city. :P Actually you could stay in Blarney if you can choose accommodation on your trip? Only a short drive into Cork I think.

Ireland accommodation is incredibly cheap at the moment though food/drink prices are a little steep.

Don't know anything about Waterford, not sure I have even heard of it. :D

I think Murphys is brewed in Cork so I guess you should try one of those as well.

Murphys, Guiness, lots of money - should be fun. Hopefully wont spend too much, i get taxis, trains, plane, accom, breakfast and dinner paid for. Maybe a few drinks too. Ill just take about 100 euros, should be enough for 4 days. I'll be working 2 days and travelling for 2 anyway. (visiting offices for office reviews of IT gear, new broadband & general support issues)

head up to Clair and check out the cliffs of Moher, lush on a sunny day (they get about 12 sunny days a year in Ireland). Or, mosey on up to Kerry - gotta be my favourite county, and much friendlier than Cork. Beautiful place, check out the Gap of Dunloe.
