Hi Guys,

I'm hoping this has been done / someone has another idea.

My friend has got to uni with his PC and Xbox hoping to run both off a Samsung 24" screen.

He took an Xbox VGA cable but the Monitor only has 1x DVI input.
i sent him a VGA to DVI adapter but the xbox red rings when connected, indicating a problem with the graphics output. (has been tested on a TV since with the component output = no red ring)

My question is could he:

use a HDMI to DVI adapter for the visual, then use the red and white audio jacks from the component cable? or does it simply not output on both?

or any other ideas?

the samsung monitor has no vga input ? he should run it straight to the vga input using the vga lead and use the 2 phonos on the vga lead and connect those to an amp.

i used this:

The short answer is, yes, analog (and optical) audio outputs do work with HDMI!, I've got my 360 hooked up to my Monitor via HDMI, with the optical output going into an AV Receiver, and the analogue stereo out going into my headset..

:)

The monitor is this model: Samsung P2370 23" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black
and only has a DVI input.

does he have a hdmi equipped xbox?
Yes his Xbox has HDMI.

So you think a HDMI to DVI adapter and then use optical or Analogue for sound? I'll send him a cable for testing. Cheers Demon

How did you plug in HDMI and Analog, mine covers up the HDMI slot.

You can do it 2 ways, 1 is to get the official xbox hdmi - which comes with the analog bits too, or you can dismantle the analog tv cable (getting rid of the excess plastic basicly) so giving you enough space to run both.
