Tax question

My tax is out 30th of sept and I basically forgot all about it till' today! so I promptly went to the Post Office with my renewal thingy only to have the bloke basically call me a crook, on closer inspection Tesco have made a typo on my certificate so it looks as if my insurance expired the day it was taken out (yeah.. dodgy :/) I quickly rang Tesco and they're promptly sending me new docs so that's sorted.

Problem is now I had to buy the tax online, being as I forgot about it I'm not going to have a disc after the 30th till the new one arrives. Will I get in trouble with the Police for this? I effectively have tax just not showing till it arrives..
 
Tesco did the EXACT same thing to me.... needless to say i was quite vocal on the phone.

However in my case the woman at the post office didnt notice, or didnt care.

Good call, I'll print it off and keep it in the car for now, I suppose something is better than nothing.
I only really started to question this as my mate is convinced the Police will think I'm Satan on wheels and throw me in jail for 50million years, I just think he's a plonker.
 
I totally forgot to renew my car tax aswell and did it online today, will just carry the print out until the tax disc arrives in the post.
