CV Criticism wanted.

11 A-C grade GCSE’s including Maths, English & Sci.

Either be consitent with the full stops after the fullstops after these bits or drop them. I prefer not to have them and have science spelt out in full.

Ability to work effectively as a part of a team in a busy environment.

drop the 'a'.

university I have developed my ability to work in a scientific

Reads better if that word is changed with 'the'.

I have a passion for IT and also the hardware side of IT.

Would read better if it was changed to 'especially the hardware side of IT'.

No :)

what sort of job are you after ?

I'd guess a entry level science one from the CV?

No :)

what sort of job are you after ?

Lab tech/analyst type stuff, I don't really have enough experience or a specialism as such to go for anything more advanced.

I'm currently looking at a technician job with EDF at a local power station - doesn't seem to require many qualifications - but would be the ideal type of job that could lead to other things.

In my opinion, due to your lack of experience I wouldn't worry "too" much about the CV and more so about the cover letter, this is where you can explain your situation and show the potential employer that you are passionate about the job.

Obviously spelling/grammar mistakes aren't acceptable so you need to work through those.

Thanks - I realise this. I think I'll take it down.

Lol stop catching feelings.

why ?

Dont take it down just because people are criticising it.

I dont think anybodys CV is their first draft.

My tip is one passed on from one of my managers at my current place:

Drop the curriculum vitae from the top. They know its your CV, thats why they asked you to send yours in.

Just have your name and address / contact details nice and clear at the top.

I'd also elaborate on your current job a bit. What do you sell ? would help if maybe you could try and link in with what you sell with some of your interests to avoid it looking like you took any job that paid straight after uni.

True! I just expected constructive. Thanks for the replies so far.

I guess I don't really have a huge deal to put into a CV at this point, time to work on a cover letter!

:)

Yeah I remember reading this in another thread, done.

It's nothing related to science - and I've been in the same job since my first year of college. Which might have been a good point if I found something straight after finishing my degree - but I'm not so sure now.

Definately get something to that effect put in your CV

people who read CVs just skim them because they get 100s per day

When i skim read yours i read it as you having had that job since you left uni.

I'd make the actual dates you did stuff stand out more, id up them a size and maybe bold them too.

Then in your bit about your job, explain it was taken as a part time job to help fund you through college / uni. Because it said 2005 - present i immedately assumed it was full time and you did it after education. Definately mention it was only part time in there somehow :)

People wont tell you when they mis read your CV. they will just skim it, mis read it, make an assumption then bin it and move onto the next

The key thing with a CV is to make the key details stand out (like your dates etc..) so that it can be easily skim read without them making wrong assessments.

trfidis grammar advice looks usefull too, but i'm hopless at that so my CV was checked by somebody else too lol :D

Trust me your e-mail address if you want and i'll send you copy of mine so you've got something to reference with.
