Galaxy makes all sorts of computer hardware and peripherals and part of the hardware the company makes are video cards for gamers and media enthusiast. The company has announced its latest video card called the GTX 460 WHDI Edition that is set to ship in October.

The coolest thing about this video card is that it is designed to connect wirelessly to a TV using an uncompressed connection. The latency of the card promises to be less than one millisecond making it appropriate for gaming. The card can also stream content to your TV like video, digital photos and more.

The five antennas sticking off the back of the video card send the content out to the TV to a small black receiver box that you connect to an input on your set. The video card doe shave local connectivity for a Pc screen as well with DVI and HDMI outputs. Pricing is unknown for the video card right now.

Not quite a wireless TV, sounds interesting

Wonder what the range is with this. Didn't even know wireless displays existed lol! I'm a bit behind with all things AV related.

I can't remember who it was but either Intel or Microsoft have been demoing a wireless soultion for a while now.

Ugly git but this looks like it could be the future.

I not sure what to think about this yet but it could be a good idea if it works, but i think i would like one normal dvi just in case

Range is 100 metres (or feet?) allegedly. Naturally the actual range will be considerably less.

It's a good idea, but I don't see the advantage of this over a seperate WHDI tranmitter/reciever. Afterall, if you have a seperate solution you can replace the video card without having to pay the extra premium again on the next GPU as well.

Pretty cool but I'd prefer a wire over all those antennas sticking out of my case. I can see this being standard in the future, when we don't need those huge antennas.

30 metres/100 feet range, interesting, useful for corporate stuff, potentially, less wires in a busy office with multiple screens on a desk, at home, less so.

Eventually we have to be moving towards one "server" in each home, in some cupboard with AC cooling, venting right outside and soundproofing and video/keyboard. Have a couple wireless screens, maybe 4-5 all connected to one comp, in the future that will be great, for now, its basically a waste.

For now wires are fine in the vast majorit of situations.

Imagine being able to stream F1 2010 from your main rig to a huge TV in the Lounge would also eliminate the need for a HTPC :)

This is perfect for my setup, any ideas on approx release date?

I not even sure Galaxy sells its wares in Europe anymore. Shame, years ago I had a Galaxy 6800GT which had a custom cooler and was very quiet and very quick and I would love to see more Galaxy products on the market.

Five antennae.........seems to me they are groping for a decent connection. Strange really when you think how far and how fast a decent wireless router can shift data.

Cheers,
vfm

Although it's a nice idea i'm not a great fan of wireless, it's too easily knocked out by things like microwaves being turned on. Hdmi from my 5870 to hd amp and then to tv for me :)

I cant wait for wireless everything lol I hate cables getting in the way :( but wireless creates a new problem.... things go missing lol
