Found: first rocky exoplanet that could host life

Im really excited about this. Really really...

20 light years is literally nothing. Almost within touching distance.

This could singlehandedly change everything we thought we knew about the possibilites of other life.

What a load of Tosh!
When are they going to stop looking for "life" on other planets?

Do these retards really believe this tosh?!

The Earth is the only living planet in the solar system and the sooner people accept that the better!

Right, but this exoplanet is far away from the solar system. In fact that's exactly what the word describes. :p

Given the distance away, that means it would take light nearly 20 years (not using exact maths) to get to Earth...so what they were seeing through the telescope was 20 years a go.

Some other aliens could have blown the place up in that time.

How many of you would welcome our new alien friends if they looked like this:

I think it's important that we are nice to any aliens who visit. We should greet them with gifts and tasty bites instead of hate and bullets.

When you say solar system I presume your mistaken and actually mean galaxy.

In which case, if your serious, your the short sited retard. Not the people making the discovery. Anyone that thinks without question that Earth is the only planet with life on it needs some serious perspective. I presume your religious. The sooner alien life is proven beyond any doubt the better. It will shut the idiots up for good. What a good day for mankind that will be!

Article on The Register reminds us that this is the star system Bebo sent its signal to a few years back.

As one might expect the resulting material focused on matters of interest only to mental cripples. There were many pictures of cats, boy crooners and other prominent figures in the Bebo userbase lifestyle. There were also many personal messages, a few of which we reproduce here:
Our bodies are made of bones ... We have senses. Smell, Taste, Sight and Touch. Without any of these things, we wouldn't live.

I love Television. We watch animated cartoons and real-life drama on it. I could sit and watch Television all day.

Bebo execs hired unscrupulous Russian astronomer Alexander Zaitsev to beam the frightful guff-blast at Gliese 581 from a powerful Ukrainian radar telescope, and it will duly arrive at that star system in March 2029. In the event of sentient alien life being present, we can presumably expect a well-deserved planetsmasher missile strike by return of post at some point after 2049 (provided the aliens haven't mastered faster-than-light travel).
