Ready to purchase one or the other.

Both crack in at around £400 other a 24 month contract.

WHICH ONE!?!?!

Well from my limited knowledge i went for the Samsumg.

Based on it being slightly more powerful, slightly better battery, and slightly bigger screen.

However the Desire has a better camera, and the software is updated a lot quicker.

Plenty of reviews on youtube, but i found most showed them to be fairly equal in most case.
 
Mainly the screen tbh, the screen on the galaxy is just amazing, makes the real world look dull. also I prefer its aesthetics. Both very good phones though
 
My desire is annoying me only had it a month. The screen unlocks with the button on top to easy. The battery is horrific even when I only want to use it as an alarm. The camera goes purple etc on the screen randomly. The lcd screen is rubbish compared to my mates oled one. The keyboard on it just is not as good as the iphone at guessing words and using thumbs to texts. Holding it with one hand is awkward as I don't have huge hands.

These are my personal opinions. Tech wise its near identical to the samsung so really my point is go and try them in a shop for a good while.
 
i went for a desire as i prefer the htc menu (samsungs is a blatant iphone ripoff)
and i feel the samsung is a lower quality build wise
 
The samsung has a much better screen in terms of size and quality, higher quality video recording and the battery life is also pretty excellent. The only thing the desire wins on is the
slightly higher quality of materials used to construct the case and a very excellent amount of custom roms and also the stock sense ui is better then the samsungs touch 3.0. Oww and the desire also has a flash if that is important to you.

Can I change the Samsung Galaxy S to the UI of the Desire? If so, there's little reason to not choose the Samsung?

I have a Galaxy S and 2 of my friends have desires, and tbh I have to say the hardware on the galaxy S is better and the software on the desire is better. Right now I would just recommend you try both out and see which u like more. Once a offical 2.2 comes out on galaxy S comes out and hopefully a few bugs are fixed I would say the Galaxys S would beat the Desire in everything no problem.

This! If only the Galaxy S was made by HTC it would be a top phone! I prefer the hardware in the galaxy, but the software support is crap.
 
Man, such a difficult decision that I can't make myself either.

I've played about with both, and I prefer the Desire in my hand, feels a lot better, doesn't look like an iphone etc, but the screen on the Galaxy S is beautiful. I asked a guy in the O2 shop, and for what it's worth, he said the Galaxy S was probably the better bet. I have a week or two to decide and I've been switching between them both almost daily!
 
Change the launcher on the Galaxy S using LauncherPro or ADW and you can eliminate TouchWiz entirely.

Sister got the Desire but I still prefer my Galaxy. The Sense UI on the Desire is better but this is easily rectified as mentioned above.
