I am thinking of getting a GTX 460 out of the 3 below which one is the quietest, for both normal windows and ingame:

1. MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 1024MB
2. MSI GeForce GTX 460 HAWK "Super-OC" 1024MB
3. the Gigabyte OC 1Gb

Thanks in advance.

You're on the right track with those 3.

You might as well go for No.2 over No.1 as the difference is £10 now for a boost in performace and should be equally quite if not more so (espically if you don't plan overclock it further)

for me the giga was quieter at idle than the MSI cyclone, but thats not due to the cyclone being loud. you could just hear it moving more air.

not sure on the hawk but id probably get the hawk as you can pick them up for like £180 from some places.

What sort of boost over my GTX 280 would I see. I aware of some of the benefits such as reduced noise and power consumption and DX 11 support.

Went for the Hawk in the end. Will see what it is like when it turns up later.

The Hawk is great for overclocking and you can always watercool it if noise or temperature becomes an issue. It was once upon a time when aircooling was acceptable by my standards, growing older may change you like it did to me eheh.
