Hi folks

The missus and I are having a weekend in London. We are travelling by train. What's the most cost effective way for us to be able to use both the underground and buses to get around please?

You have to pay a deposit for Oyster cards so if you don’t plan to keep them for future travel you will have to get to return them to get the deposit back. One day off-peak travel cards offer the same fare capping but you will have to get one each day.

You might want to save some money in London when you are here:

I'd quite like a go on a Segway (somewhere away from cliff edges mind :) ) but eh folks thanks very much for the suggestions for a London noob like me :)

As others have said the Oyster card, however an alternative would be to register for the Boris bikes. IIRC it costs £1 to register then it's free to hire a bike for 30 mins - should be plenty of time to get between a tourist attraction.

About those bikes...do you have to return them to same "bike station" that you took it from, or can you literally just take one for the quid and cycle it to the nearest bike-lockey-dedicated-station (I don't know what to call them) at your destination?
