Although he may have been a little disrespectful, I think maybe you are over reacting just a tad. You could have just politely, or impolitely, told him to "STFU".

Some people just are affected less by death than others, I'm one of those people, but that's more because I deal with it regularly, although I do understand professional courtesy.
