Hey guys, I've been going to college for about a month now and I got a letter though the post from them saying "Due to a change in legislation bla bla bla we want £36 from you to pay for a CRB check bla bla bla because I'm over 19 and there are 16 year olds about bla bla bla Failing to pay will result in you being kicked out of the college"

Surely they can't do this? Why should I have to pay for them to check that I'm not a pedo?

Yep they can, most places at least if its a job will pay for it but i know of quite a few collages and things that dont pay for it

But I've already started, surely they should have let me know this whilst we were discussing payment. Not a month into it...

Does this really exist, because of 16 year olds when you are over 19?
It's legal and all but, sounds a bit strange, if I was ever in this position I'd want to see this legislation change.

I would have thought that a CRB check would have been mandatory in your college for employees. Also for students on Childcare, Health & Social Care courses where you go on a placement. I didn't think it was necessary for most students. What are you?

Hmm surely this is pc crap.

If the students are all over 16 why a CRB, surely they are legally classed as adults? I can appeciate that people who are teaching/working with people under 16 that need them but this just smacks at profiterring.

What next mature students at university needing a crb? If not what's the difference?

I'm 21 doing an Advanced Diploma in Engineering, my class consists of 16-19 year olds.

what happens if you take your child to the cinema to see a kids film ? Thats £10 for the movie and £36 for the CRB.

All the CRB proves is that you haven't been caught yet, you could still be a filthy kiddy fiddler! :p
