Energy saving lightbulbs review

problem is nearly every light in my house is a dimmer light with 2-3 bulbs in.

apart from the kitchen that use halogen (?) bulbs.

need to replace the lot really.

Here's the score; I use 150w regular bulbs. I have a big room, and I like it to be bright. I also rock a dimmer switch. Also, I'm really sensitive to light temperatures. I'm doomed aren't I?.

It's not really fair, because the temperature of the light has a real effect on the atmosphere, imo (I'm a photographer/cinematographer by skill-set), and traditional bulbs are roughly 'right'..

At the moment I'm getting away with it because my dads store sells 100/150w bulbs, and can still get hold of them. I'm fearing this might end at some point in the future. Any particular recommendations?.

Get one of these. Equivelent to a 225watt incandescent bulb and only uses 45watt energy. They're not too bright and you can get either warm or daylight colour temp.

They're bigger than a normal bulb though so you'd need to check it'll fit your lamp shade :D.

Tbh I've used 6000k and 2700k (cold/warm) cfl's and they're too brutal for me, the cold bulbs are too cold, and the warm bulbs make you feel as though you're on mars :(. Normal bulb - just right :(.

oooh nice link, he has many many diff types of cfl in both colours.
30w are 165mm long but 45w are 250mm long
are they suitable for dimmer switches ? normal cfls dont like them and make a horrible buzzing sound from the bulb.
i have a megaman dimmable 11w and its not very bright and not really dimmable . i would look for the highest wattage one that says suitable for dimmers or replace with a normal light switch.
i dont know if halogen are suitable for dimmers? they give off a nice light, not too yellowy and not too white.

i know what you mean cfls are abit on the extreme side of either colour, it is possible to get colours inbetween like 3000,4000,5000k and those will have the right colour for you ;) if not halogen have a good colour spectrum.
