Protesters took to the streets of Reykjavik today, forcing MPs to run away from the people they don't represent as renewed anger about the impact of the financial crisis caused by greedy capitalist bankers erupted in Iceland.

The violent protest came amid growing fury at austerity measures being imposed on the working classes across Europe. Disruption in more than a dozen countries this week included a national strike in Spain and a cement truck driven into the Irish parliament's gates. (The Grauniad)
Are you watching Maggie?

Do you remember the Poll Tax Riots Maggie?

Go get your Eton Rifles coz it's gonna happen again to your evil droids Maggie :D

I remember the poll tax riots, they happened twenty years ago and just like Maggie herself are irrelevant to what's happening in the world today.

What's your next attempt at past or present Tory bashing going to revolve around?

"Ooooh! Phil tried to burn down the Queen Vic! Quick! Blame Maggie and the Tories!"

You are quickly turning into the "political Magick" of these forums -

lol stockhausen!

Yes, because the obvious solution is to keep spending money we don't have on people who don't deserve it or doing jobs that don't achieve anything.

Clearly this is a much better solution than trying to correct 13 years of economic idiocy from the stupid party...

To be strictly honest, I can't see much likelihood of the selfish, lemming-like British people making any sort of meaningful protest against the actions of our present government.

If someone suggest that it is cruel to terrorise foxes, you can count on Middle England to kick up a fuss. However, if it just involves punishing the working classes for the greed of bankers, the British people can be relied upon to look the other way and pray that it doesn't affect them

After all, we now know that "There is no such thing as society - big or samll :(

How exactly does it involve just punishing the working classes?
Do you mean withdrawal of some benefits paid for by the other classes? Or are we going around identifying working class people and stealing their money?

That is a lot of self loathing you have there, maybe some counselling would be a good idea? :D

I think it's quite the opposite, most people realise that the cuts are necessary. Short term pain for long term gain makes perfect sense to me.

Restructuring the Benefits system, reducing State involvement, reducing State waste, increasing personal responsibility, reducing bureaucracy are all things I can agree with.

The British people aren't lemmings, they are simply not shortsighted, in the main anyway.

I'd agree with this.
When there is no money left to spend, and we're swamped in debt, one needs to cut back on things.

I can guarantee it - plans are already well advanced.

I wouldn't be so sure.

LOL, let's have fire brimstone and revolution for the so called working class. The red flag appears to be stuck up a hole and I can't see it coming out again. ;)

Like banker's bonuses, tax loopholes for non-dom Tory party donors, etc. you mean

Wow, you're clueless how the world works arent you?

The bankers are paid bonuses based on their performance. If they're not paid at the same rate as the rest of the world they'd leave the bank and to one abroad which doesn't have restrictions on pay. You'd prefer Dubai to get our 50% tax payers then?

LOL Dubai is one place they won't be going. Can't pay your debts in Dubai, no bankruptcy protection, go straight to prison. Hence many of them had to covertly get themselves and their families out of the country when the music stopped in 2007.

The risk of a so-called brain drain in the financial service industry is overstated. Foreign governments who once look enviously at London and genuinely did try to attract the banks to their shores now see the enormous weight around the British government's neck and are considerable less eager to become the world's financial capital themselves. The most successful bankers are successful because of the people around them, moving to a new team in a foreign country where the pool of available talent is considerably smaller carries with it significant risk that the success they had in London isn't transferable.

On the basis of past performance they should have all of their vital organs removed and sold on the open market then

As to Dubai getting all of the gamblers who landed us in this mess - they are welcome to them - I believe that the laws in Dubai are just a bit less sympathetic than ours are ;)

Are you really that stupid that you can't realise that people normally get bonuses based on specific targets? I doubt if any of these targets are "Make sure a failed loser who posts a lot of tripe on an internet forum is happy".
