Being lazy one day with a shuttle, and tried to screw PCI card in while it was on with lid off it slipped onto the mobo followed by sparks and a little fire. £400 went down the drain ;(

dropped a full tower workstation worth about £1500 at the time down a full flight of stairs. case was broken into bits but everything inside survived. ended up running it outside the case for a few months after that as I was broke. :)

My UPS failed during a power spike resulting in sparks and smoke taking out my REII, two Hard drives, my psu and 2 5870's. Worse thing that was lost was the data for my masters disso, all my test data and research went with it, sods law that the two drives that went were my backup drives.

On the brighter side, i get to buy new toys :), and i got a 4 month extension from my uni :).

sent one from canada to uk by carrier and opened the box to find that the mobo had broken away from the case and had been rattling around for a good long time... courier decided it wasn't their fault and it must have been like that before they picked it up, yup, because i would have sent a broken pc all the way to the uk!

Pressing the power button when you just built a pc and it not working and having a mini heart attack, then remembering to flick the power switch at the back on the psu. :)

Me = when overclocking my inspiron 6000 removed the mobo. Finished mod and connecting everything when I realised that I yanked the whole front speaker connectors off the board... still have to find a way to connect as the plastic melted when i tried soldering.

Me + Friend were working on moving from old case to new case. Took apart everything and finally got it together we managed to ground the mobo to the case and killed it...

edit: forgot about this a while back got my desktop pc was playing around with the PSU saw a switch at the back and when it was still connected flicked it. Heard a spark and smelled something burnt... killed my PSU the same day I got it...

worst thing to happen to mine is when the police took and refused to give it back.

or even let me get important data of the hard drive which ended up costing me my job

PSU has blown up before (was cheapy PSUs included with cases *shudder*) but ever since I've been spending my own money on my PC (rather than my parents buying my PC) I've bought good quality PSUs (or "borrowed" spare ones of my parents :D) Luckily *touch wood* I haven't had any components fail either due to the PSU blowing, or for other reasons, but my brother has, had his mobo, Pentium 4 (back in the day), RAM, and gfx card all die when his cheap PSU blew.

Not sure if it counts but my £200 Asus motherboard had a nasty incident involving a hammer.

Probably worst actual accident was when I accidentally knocked a brand new £400 GPU against the side of teh case knocking off a vital SMD - fortunatly found exact same component on an old GF5200 and a rather fiddly soldering job later all was well.

I was trying to revive an old PC with a new cheap CPU. But couldn't get the old one out, it was stuck. So I got a screwdriver :D

Ended up twanging the CPU accross the room. Socket was shafted too, nvm.
