Hi guys, I have at the minute a Dell 2209wa which is a cracking monitor but I miss my large scale gaming from my console days :( I was considering a 3008 monitor second hand but these are still pricy and may have no warranty by the time I own it.

So looking on various websites, I have found really nice 32" samsungs with a 1920x1080 resolutions for around the 330-350 mark which seems very good value for money. Would I really not be better getting one of these instead of a 30" monitor for gaming on? I know the dell has a far sharper resolution but will a casual gamer/web browser really notice all that much of a difference?

Your thoughts please :)

Still pricy, though not quite as much as the Dell 3008, and a better panel: Check out the HP ZR30W. 3 year warranty, extendible to 5yrs for an extra £24.

The issue with using a 1080p TV as a gaming screen is primarily input lag (and also response rate). Input lag is completely irrelevant for TV / film watching, but very important for gaming. I'm not sure what the typical input lag is with 32" Samsung screens, but perhaps someone more clued in can let us know? (paging PCM2 :p)

I think £330 is very reasonable for a 32inch tele and at around a 1/3 cheaper than the any 30 inch monitor. I just don't think that for some one who games casually that i'd notice all that much. Maybe I'm wrong, does anyone here use a TV to play fps and rts on?

I game on my 42" LG tv screen, and it's awesome. 1080p looks sharp enough imo and it'll look even better on a 32" compared to my 42".

The main concern when gaming on a TV is input lag. My TV is a 42ld690..... I'm not sure if that model is supposed to have high or low lag, but I don't really notice anything. On most models it's caused by the picture processing, so disabling the various options in the menu is supposed to improve things. People have different tolerances...... I don't really notice any on my screen, but then I'm slow and old ;). If you're a twitch-reaction-based-quake-player, I imagine you would notice some delay on the inputs.

Here's an extensive thread about input lag on the avforums. It lists a bunch of models which are supposed to have low lag.

Are you considering the Samsung LE32C530?

I am. I've also read a review that states it's great for gaming.

That was the exactly the TV i was looking for! I can seem to get it for £350 inc delivery but hope to get it a few quid cheaper yet! ;) Cheers for the link fozzybear!

You can get it for around £320 online (£350 with 5 year warranty).

It's also £312 on the rainforest site with free delivery. That's an absolute steal imo. :)

Sorry to hi-jack but the reviews for the 32" version are great. I'm in the market for a 40" tv to hook up to my pc for films etc any recommendations at 40"?

No probs with the hi-jack ;) Is there not a 40" version of the same tv? I assume it would also be very good indeed :)

You can get the LE40C530 for £420. Compared to the 32" model, you're getting another 8" for £100. Oooh matron! :p

You can of course pay more and get a Freeview/Freesat HD 100hz screen.

Hmmm not so great for gaming i doubt! My screen is black and white and cannot whatever I do change it :( also I cannot enable sli anymore. Wish I had researched this a bit more! Ah well of to the for sale section I go lol!
