I'm planning on getting one of these to replace my main PC, as it's used as a media centre at the moment. It will be playing files from a USB hard drive, as well as being used to watch iPlayer and will be running windows 7.

I've read a fair bit about hardware acceleration and stuttering, I just really want to know if the Revo running Windows 7 with VLC will be able to play my MKVs without and problems?

I have one and it plays back anything i through at it even 1080p files.

remember one thing... MKV is not a type of video compression its just a contaner.

also i use mediaportal to play my files and organise my library and have it rigged up in the frontroom for use as a media centre on my TV..

as long as you load the right codecs in windows then you should have no problems whatso ever.

I have a revo 3610 too, fantastic! I struggled away with a Popcorn Hour A200 for ages before I got the revo, I just stuck XBMC Live on it and away I went, brilliant!

How strange. A friend of mine has one of these and has win 7 loaded on it. He is experiencing issues with 1080p playback. He gets about 10fps and it looks like someone has stuck it in 1/4 speed.

720p films work fine.

I've suggested he do a clean install as I noticed there were about 4 windows.old.001 folders in his C:\

I've heard that they work very well on the whole and shouldn't really experience any problems. Intel ATOM and Nvidia ION should do the trick!

Which codec is he using ? I spent a lot of time getting W7 working with a Revo 3610, and found the shark007 codec pack to make things much easier.

Use the MPC-HC decoder for hardware acceleration.

Ive now switched to xbmc / ubuntu, and find it all works so much more better, with minimum fiddling.
