*** Official Dead Rising 2 Thread***

Yeah because i can just pluck magazines out of thin air, not that i even knew that magazine existed, or where to find it  And of course they use an item slot that is difficult to justify sparing early on.

Your response is that of pure fanboism. Yes my mistake, there are 3 speed upgrades not 2, but that doesn't change the fact the first hasn't made an even remotely noticable difference, perhaps all 3 combine to make a difference, or perhaps they get a little stronger, i don't know, but this is all feeling notoriously grind like. I have absolutely zero control over how i level up, i just have to accept the arbitrary gifts as and when they come.

I still find it laughable that you seem to claim people are in error if they don't play the game for 15 hours until they can start having more fun. Just Cause 2 i loaded up and was having good fun on the first mission from the get-go. Wandering around at the start pre-safe house i can accept as being sluggish but EVERYTHING feels sluggish. Jesus i'm not asking for a Batman: Arkham Asylum free flow combat system but every attack is clearly a seperate attack, nothing flows together at all. Not even moving and attacking. And the fact that you neglected to comment on the rest of my post speaks wonders...

The game is absolutely devoid of all 'feel'. Maybe this will improve, maybe not, i'll see.

Actually I was in a hurry to go out to lunch, I'm back now and will give a full response later (if I can be bothered given your blinkered view!)

Is that just another way of saying 'an opinion which differs to mine and whose points i cannot deny'? There are numerous niggly little problems with the game ranging from gameplay and control to just irritating things like pressing escape on a sub-menu takes you back to the game, not back to the main menu. They all add up to something pretty flawed.

After 6/7 hours of survivor rescuing and zombie mashing, you'd probably be at a stage where the game started to make sense.
I'm level 6 after just over an hour on my own game, Katie will unfortunately be losing her life this playthrough. :)
The thing is though... I don't see it as a grind to get levels up. Survivors are quick and easy PP in this game. All treadmills and all exercise bikes are also a good start.
It was exactly the same with the first game as I remember. Most people moaned that it was rubbish or too difficult, so stopped playing after an hour or 2... Some people should just stay away.

At level 10, you're at no stage to take on the game really.
As for magazines taking up inventory slots, meh, it's inventory management all the way.
Use the boxing gloves + bow knife all the time. IED's are good every so often just to force some PP.

I don't know, maybe some people should have played DR1 first on 360 before commiting to buy on PC. It's just not for everyone.

But seriously it shouldn't take this long to get into a game... someone said 15 hours... 15 hours!? You can get into and complete games in that time.

I'm thankful the Dead Rising is not one of these games. It lives off it's replayability. I don't have a clue how much time I put into the first game but I know it's far more than most others I'd play.
I tire of games being over after a few hours.

This game has around 100 hours of gameplay its not like the recent games where its all over in a few hours.

You cannot even complete this until your lvl 35 or higher as some bosses are way to hard. (co-op helps but not much until the higher levels).

The game only takes about 6 realtime hours to complete but as there are several different endings & many unlockable items+costumes+weapons the possibilities are huge :D

The game design save system allows you to restart with your saved character stats for a good reason ;)

If you play the TIR MP deathmatch it saves the money earned there into the save game you chose which can then be used ingame to buy improved weapons.

Some awesome weapons I have found/created so far:

Robot Teddy Bear + LMG  :D
Electric Guitar
Placing fireworks in zombies mouths :D
Using Firecrackers to divert zombies
Motorbike + Chainsaws :D
Motorbike + Machine Guns
Paddle + Double Chainsaws
********* The Tiger :D
Ghosts n Goblins Armour :D (gives you supr fast walk speed + double health + lasts longer)

As this game has so many sub missions & its easy to miss them the replayability is massive as several sub missions give you new weapons you cannot otherwise unlock at all.

Go to a blender & mix up some drinks then you also get temp abilities.

Get Katey 11 specific items & for each one she will reward you with lots of PP

Save survivors for more PP

Spend $1M with the Fortune Teller for plenty of bonuses

& so on there is so much content & unless you get your stats up to lvl50 by design the controls do feel sluggish but once you get into the late lvl30s & higher it feels very smooth to control as all Chuck's stats increase with each lvl up plus you unlock hidden combo cards for weapons & there are approx 10 special moves Chuck can perform with his hands/feet.

How do I get the damn xbox controller to work with this? Its showing up in windows and pressing the home button brings up battery status.

How do I get the damn xbox controller to work with this? Its showing up in windows and pressing the home button brings up battery status.

Download the Xbox360CE v2.0.2.62. http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/down...2.zip&can=2&q=

Run x360ce.exe.
Click yes to create x360ce.ini.
Load preset Controller (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows).
Open advanced tab of controller and disable native mode.
Uncheck force feedback.
Click options.
Set FakeWMI to be EnabledUSB.
Set Fake DI to be EnabledCalback.
Check of Fake WIN Trust.
Leave the rest.
Check if your buttons/axes are mapped properly.
Save changes.

Now copy the following files to your Dead Rising2 folder.
x360ce.ini
xinput1_3.dll

Go to PC Settings and enable your controller (it won't be grayed out anymore). This method works 100% everytime as long as you follow this step by step.

This worked for me ^

However, that version of XboxCE kept crashing when I unchecked native mode, so I grabbed the latest version 2.0.2.9something and it worked fine. :)

Thank you very much! Its quite annoying as you see the gamepad symbol on the rear of the case, so I just assumed it would work.

Arthur Armour! 1200P Max Everything (no slowdowns either!)

In order to unlock this you have to beat the game with an S ending so it will take around 30-40 hours to get this far. The armour reflects everything & gets covered in blood easily:cool: (when it breaks you just go back to the locke room at the start of the game where you save & get another suit) There are many other unlockables but this is the best suit in the entire game & it also boosts health a lot (I am also carrying a laser sword :D).

Ok so i normally avoid these console ports like the plague but i've thought i'd give Dead Rising the benefit of the doubt (massive L4D fan). After five hours of play i uninstalled the game on the basis it stucks for PC uses & is unbearable.

Really enoyed the concept but my god the controls suck. If you run up to a zombie but fall short you get attacked (fair enough) but left clicking has zero effect untill the zombie has finished it's 'nom nom' moment. This literally makes no sense & becomes increasingly frustrating as the games goes on. If you're being attacked you naturally try to retaliate but the game simply refuses to acknowledge your inputs untill the script has finished.

I could cope with this were it not for the ridiculous repawning when going through area's. You clear an entire shopping mall floor but if you walk through a set of door's & go back again you find the entire area repopulated again?. Where the honey badger did they come from? Tactics are irrelevant & boil down to collecting random items, gaffering them together hammering left click (with the A.I automatically adjusting the angle of attack to the closest zombie). Literally no flow to the controls.

Sorry but its a PC port afterthought with maximising profit in mind

I'v never seen it that way, and dont have a problem with the controls, the whole fact of you falling short and getting grabbed you could say it part of the learning process :p. And why would you not want to Zombies to respawn??? The whole idea of the game is re-playability and after playing for a couple of hours I reckon it wouldnt have been hard to kill of every zombie. (The game would be very fun then)

Can someone tell me roughly how overtime mode works in this game? If I remember correctly the first game had an extra 72 hours if you finished all the missions, and an extra 24 if you finished that or something.

For the most part it's fun, but that lack of weapons scattered around that aren't useless means that sometimes I just cannot be bothered as I get stuck in a crowd with only a bat left and the choice of protest signs and rakes.

DR was one of the games I got a 360 for(along with Brutal Legend, Crackdown and Fable 2), but never actually got around to it till recently. First impressions were great, huge fan of the Romero trilogy etc(night, dawn, day, the rest don't count!), but I wasn't prepared for how hard it was out of the box. I don't think I've had so many sweaty palmed, leg punching, outbursts of rage since Bionic Commando:Rearmed(cheers, capcom).

A few restarts later, I accepted the fact I was rubbish and my character wasn't strong enough to be acing everything. A bit later on, about level 15 things started to flow, I beat the clown, got the engineering book, had some more character tricks, got rather nifty with a sledgehammer and chainsaw. Level 20 and up I was dodging in and out of zombies while on the phone.

I just got a A/True Ending and I'm on my way to getting the full Megaman suit. To say that it's one of the best games I've played in a long time is an understatement. It's hard and brutally unforgiving(one save slot, save at an bad spot and it's back to the start), but on the other side of the coin, hugely fun, loaded with character and immense overall value.

I'm a bit worried about DR2 being a huge letdown after this, if they have bettered it, I'll eat a wholemeal shoe dunked in marmite.

No OT mode at all now.

If you perform well by completing certain missions & sub missions you get a final boss fight (which you can forget winning unless your lvl 45+ lvl 50 is best for this though as its unforgiving and no saves nearby either to make you work for it ;)).

BTW weapons are not usless at all your not making the most of them plus your character gets a higher damage attack stat as you lvl up it increases the damage done.

Look at a guide or something if you CBA to discover yourself but there are firework rocket launchers, dynamite crossbows, dynamite bow & arrows, chainsaw bikes, machine gun wheelchairs, electrified rakes & so on etc etc there are literally 100+ weapons in this game most are decent & many are also funny like the toy helicopter with rotor blades, robot bear with LMG, servbot mask with rotor, flaming bullshead..........
