Funnily enough yes I do know all about editing.
On November 3rd I'm going to The Hilton in London where I have been nominated for a Nursing Times Award for a film I have made which was heavily edited.

On a serious note... how is this thread not entertaining! I'm blown away by the two guys who posted saying it was boring as hell.

Well it gave me a pretty big chuckle more than a few times. I guess the same goes for people with a taste for comedy that don't find Pilkington funny.

OK, I've made a decision not to post anymore on the Karl is real or not debate in fear the thread may get locked.
Somebody has already called me a liar saying that for a person with 40 years of music experience in the City that I've made no contacts with local radio stations - yeah OK.
Somebody also called me a tool and I'm not getting into that game.
I will leave this thread with my thoughts on Karl:

He left school with nothing (so did I).
He bummed about a bit and got a job at Hospital Radio which gave him a lot of experience to end up at XFM and eventually being Head Of Production.
Head Of Production is not just about pressing buttons and needs some brains.
It's obvious from the early XFM broadcasts that he has a weird outlook on life rather like our own Magick and Teki and yes people like that exist and Karl is one of them.
His character was helped along by Gervais/Merchant who indulge his Magick/Teki ramblings but even Pilkington is not daft enough to believe his Monkey news stories.
He has now reached legendary status and knows he can make a living from being a full time 'idiot'.
I believe the new show is a mixture of real feelings and sketches.
That is all and long may he prosper.

This is my last word on the debate so believe what you will.
 
Lol what a crazy thread. Your right about it being prepared and planned etc. But tbh they just sent him to those places on purpose to make karl say something funny, was probably hundreds and hundreds of minutes of footage that wasn't used.

Why do you think they keep telling him its not a holiday? Do you think if karl was abroad doing all these sketches, he would be saying to rickie and steven that its a **** holiday????

Whoever believes this show is scripted, that Karl is now a comedian, and his character is a development are complete idiots. Sick of this over opinionated tripe.

Steve and Ricky getting to know their new producer and finding him a fascinating person is not "character development".

A planned situational trip, if you dont know about film making, is a simple production necessity born out of making the most of a potential budget. Its necessary to maximise the potential usable footage in a final edit.

Seriously, enjoy the show knowing full well Karl IS Karl and says only what he is reacting to.

I was accused of being a liar saying I did not know any Head Of Productions in our local radio stations - yes I do.
It doesn't mean I know anything about being Head Of Production but I do know it contains more work/brains/responsibility than pressing buttons and making jingles.
I was asked if I knew anything about film editing - yes is the reply - I do it all the time.
These two things have got nothing to do with the character so please get your facts right before you accuse me of saying something.
Making films and playing in bands does not make me an authority on Karl Pilkington so don't make things up.
Call me an idiot for having my views but don't take something completely out of context please.

What I hate is somebody like JoeFX69 completely twisting words into something I didn't say suggesting because I worked in the 'industry' I know what I'm talking about when it comes to Karl.
I never said that and he should be ashamed.

That's exactly how it feels like. If anyone says something dmpoole doesn't completely agree with, there's an argument and dmpoole keeps stating his opinions as facts saying people are stupid if they don't agree with him or see the real truth.

I can easily see why people start calling names after they are being called stupid.

Personally I think Karl is as Karl is shown but Gervais&co do push him into situations and sometimes tip him into the right direction. But I really do think Karl is being Karl in most of the situations he finds himself in out there. And I keep thinking that way unless someone comes up with facts, not opinions to state otherwise. Even then, I'm not sure I would want to know about such facts because I enjoy Karl as he is.

I was simply stating facts, paraphrasing lines that would engage the modest minded into understanding that any (for or against) talk of the industry is essentially irrelevant.

Im gobsmacked at the irony here. You accuse Karl of being a developed comedian, based on nothing, and yet you are the one being irate, saying people are calling you a liar, "i dont lie", saying "dont make things up" (when indeed, it is you reading between the lines and making up you're own conclusion on what people have said and subsequently directly accusing them as such) etc.

The double standards is 2 part hilarious, 1 part sad.

I suggest that in the future, if you are to make accusations on a public forum, not to be surprised when people make an opposite, yet entirely equal argument against you. Because you're reaction so far is massively hypocritical and nothing short of braindead.

If by 'evolution of the character' you mean going from a man too shy to talk most of the time becoming someone more used to public speaking and becoming more comfortable with his own increasing fame then yes, he has 'evolved'.

If you mean the past 8 years or so have been carefully orchestrated to 'build up' the character of Karl Pilkington then I have to agree with a poster on the last page, you are an epic tool who is now continuing to argue simply to pee other people off.

Also - you have done nothing BUT debate Karl, maybe you should stop.

It was used when you called me a liar that I didn't know any Head Producers of radio stations and I said I've been gigging for many years and I do know a couple (3 actually).
It was never used to say 'I know what I'm talking about'.
