best os for NC10

i have a nc10 and need to format, was wondering what is the best os to stick on it? only have 1gb of ram, but have access to win7/xp

was wondering if starter version of win7 would run better than the normal? or is this thing geared for xp?

If you have access to win7 starter then why not give it a go and if it don't work then shove xp on.

well it will mean downloading and wiping, just wondered if anyone knows if there is any performance increase going down from win7pro to win7 starter?

ive had win7 pro since a month before it was out on mine

it runs better than xp that came with it.

np, i have win7 pro on it, but needs a wipe as lent it to a mate and its shagged now. just wondering if win7basic would give more performance

Interesting that W7 was better than XP - been toying with upgrading my missus's one for a while now. Starting to feel a bit long in the tooth and was tempted to buy a new one - let us know how it feels after the refresh.

People have done some interesting things on various sites to strip down distro's of XP and w7 that run smoother on smaller devices like netbooks, for instance a friend came to be with an aged 1.4ghz celeron laptop, its boot partition had failed and i couldnt recover the license from underneath, so i had no qualms about using the ripped windows xp for his machine, Booted into windows in under 30 seconds, and only occupied 150 mb in ram on boot, very impressed. If you enjoy the creature comforts of W7 i believe similar shrinking projects have been made.
