E46 headlight aim issue

Okay - so, the nearside headlight is aiming too centrally (i.e. too far to the right).

However, when I adjust the horizontal adjuster screw to the correct position the headlight becomes wobbly and insecure. It seems that the only way to secure it is to have the screw almost fully tightened, which just sends the aim off way to the right, to the extent that the two beams pretty much aim at the same point. There's almost no curbside illumination at night.

Can anyone explain why it won't stay adjusted to the left?

Cheers.

I assume it's non-xenons?

I remember from having a 2004 330ci that there was a switch/lever which altered the horizontal beam for when driving abroad. Could you (or someone else) have accidentally moved it?

Other than that, I'm no help I'm afraid.

Yes it's pretty possible I knocked it when I was fitting a new bulb. And yes - the bulbs are definitely secure.

Any clue where that thing is?
