It's nearly time to service the Accord and I'm going to do it myself.

Going for a major service (so all fluids, filters and spark plugs) and probably discs and pads all round too.

ECP has a lot of it listed but a lot is out of stock.

Any reccomended places for bits like this, or should I just go to halfords and bend over?

Is where I tend to go for parts now, noticed a similar problem with ECP when I tried to price up new brake discs & pads. They suddenly no longer have any items at all for the Megane. Even clicking the items in my recently viewed brings up dead links.

All the motor factors I've been to sell good quality oil at fair prices. My local sells Miller oil for example. Air filter can be cheap as you like, But I'd recommend a genuine oil filter as the price difference is negligible.

Replacing the fuel filter is a good idea too if you didn't already have that in mind and it hasn't been done for a while.

i dont seem to be able to get millers oil cheap anywhere any more. since it became a buzz work on t'web the prices went through the roof

Well I haven't bought any since just before xmas, and it was about £18 for 5 litres IIRC.

It probably has gone up, Opie sell it for £24 and that's with membership discount!

Kevin Cooper are ace, but not the cheapest. I use them when I want stuff straight away and can't get elsewhere.

ECP, order online and pick up in store is probably the easiest bet. Don't forget if you're going for a FULL service, belts need doing too.

Cheers guys. It's in for an MOT tomorrow so hopefully it'll be set for another year by the weekend.

Which belts do you mean InvG? Timing belt isn't due yet

Will have a look when I'm under the bonnet.

To be honest, with such a cheap car I'm not hugely bothered about religiously sticking to manufacturers guidelines. Obviously want to look after it, but if the belts are in good nick then I'll leave them this time around

Yeah...mine looked rather dead...both were covered in cracks and just looked nasty, so replaced them...better safe than sorry, especially with my history. :p

Ended up going to the eurocarparts branch in Exeter, got oil, filters (air, fuel and oil), spark plugs and pagid discs and pads all round. They had everything in stock - the only things they didn't have were the sump washer (don't stock them) and copper grease in anything other than a huge tub. Got those bits from halfords - spent a total of 220 quid. Not bad considering a garage would be charging 500+ for a major service and new brakes all round.

Done everything before apart from the oil change and fuel filter - any last minute tips?

Andrew Page for ADL Blueprint

That's just randomly reminded me a good friend I lived with at uni was the son of the chap who started up Blueprint, looks like he's still the chairman now.

Was a nice guy :)

Pity the guy I went to uni with dropped off the face of the earth after we all left!

Although just seen he's now a director there, surprise surprise.

Nothing to do with the topic of course :p
