We were metered at our old property and paid about £28 per month for a family of four with higher than average usage. We moved to our current house three years ago and within six months out bill had gone up slightly to £32. By the middle of last year it was up to £44 and we have recently had a 6 month reading that showed our payments (by direct debit) had not been covering our actual bill. The new payment including extra to cover the £100 arrears now owed stand at £58.50 :O.
We had a about six months of building work that started this time last year and didn't affect our bill for that period and usage hasn't noticably altered. The only obvious changes since a year ago are a new washing machine and the old back noiler heating was replaced with a new combi boiler. Both are supposed to be more efficient with both water and energy (our gas bill is higher but our electric has dropped).
I'm not sure if they would consider checking the meter in case that is faulty but I wish they would do something about the water quality which has got worse over the past year or so.
