Place to buy dumbbells?

Hey guys,

I'm not sure if this breaks any forum rules and if it does, then please lock this thread.

I'm looking to buy 2 dumbbells that have up to 20kg weights on each, I see from looking at the cheap stuff at argos etc they seem to only sell sets of 2 where the total weight of both is 20kg. Would this just mean I need to buy 2 sets or would the spinlock bars not be able to cope with 20kg's worth on a single bar?

If not, where can i get a single dumbbell that can? :(

I'm currently using 16kg and 20kg depending on exercises hence the need for adjustability.

If the argos ones have metal bars and have the space for 20KG, then you'll be fine putting 20KG on each one, so yeah 2 sets would work fine.
 
2 sets wouldn't be fine I bet, the weights are small so you wouldn't get 20 on each I doubt :p

Hi Morba,

Yes I guess you're correct, but I only use 20kg for one set of exercises currently, and predominantly 16kg, so I think I'll stick with it for the moment and then the only way is up! :)

I'm used to using Technogym dumbbells at the gym I've been going to, but I can bet they cost a small fortune.
 
Yeah they are expensive!
Fortunately what yo want is a normal db bar and some standard 1" weights. Thankfully these are rather abundant on eBay and your local free ads. Go have a search :)

I find 5kg plates the best for dumbells :)

My mate's got one, well technically me now as he gave it to me, the bars are more than capable of holding 20KG :p.

I'm not disputing they can hold the weight, I'm talking about getting enough plates on there :p

I meant that too :p, there's enough room for a few more too. The ones I have anyway, there's enough room for 4x5KG each side + the lock.
