British tabloid the Daily Mail has highlighted the dangers of Nintendo's pet sim Nintendogs, following an animal attack on a 9-year-old girl.

Megan Walker was mauled by Saracen, a bull mastiff, while playing the game at a friend's house. The dog dragged Megan from the sofa and sank its teeth into the girl's face, removing her lip.

The Daily Mail attributes the attack to the sounds of barking emanating from Megan's DS "game station" during a bout of Nintendogs.

The girl's grandmother, Jean Taylor, told the paper, "I think this game should carry some kind of warning. People should be told not to play it when there are dogs in the room. I blame the game for what happened to Megan. If they hadn't been playing it I don't think the dog would have gone for her."

The Daily Mail concludes that the friend's mother was unavailable for comment, but "it is understood that she told police that Megan may have kicked Saracen and that is why he attacked her".

Doctors managed to re-attach Megan's lip following the attack and the dog was later destroyed.

yep, and i like how "Ms Melville was unavailable for comment, but it is understood that she told police that Megan may have kicked Saracen and that is why he attacked her." is at the very END of the article, as though it's an irrelevant fact. because "girl kicks dog, gets attacked" doesn't make as good a headline as blaming the video game does for a typical mail reader.
 
There should be a mandatory IQ test for people who want to own dogs very much larger than their children.

Nearly every dog-attacks-child story I have ever read boils down to massive dog and child being left unsupervised and/or said dog is provoked. I **** off my cat and it thanks me by letting my blood out :(

Do it to a bull mastif and.. well. You have a Daily Mail story.
 
The dangerous dogs act has neither stopped dog fighting or dog attacks. Dog fighters still flout the law and continue to breed pitbulls and owners have simply substituted one type of molosser breed for another. THREE breeds are named in the BSL. Nice. That leaves me another 90 or so molosser type breeds I can choose from and own perfectly legally. Each one capable of tearing chunks out of men, women and children. The Gull Terr. The Bully Kutta. Cane Corso. American Bulldog. The Boerboel. And fighting dog of fighting dogs, the Kurdish Kangal.

The breeds aren't the problem. It's ignorant ass people who haven't a clue about dogs chipping in their opinions, or worse, owning them.
