Bangernomics? Dam Yeah !!

got any more details on why a cambelt would affect the bottom end ? ...and it has done 30k since the rebuild and sounds fine

Just plain shock transferred down the con rods as the pistons crash into the valves. Squishes the shells a little bit then they get hammered flat from there as they get slacker. The milage since the work means it probably has dodged a bullet, but if you heart it start to tap under load, just stop, save the crank. At this many miles since the work though I wouldn't worry.

It's a shame it's not the 3.0 and it's a dodgy auto, but absolute stonking value.

Is that the going rate for one of these or did you get it seriously cheap?
I think it's pretty much the going rate, although certainly near the bottom end.
These cost absolute peanuts.

I was considering 166s, albeit manuals, when I got the Lolvo, but I just couldn't risk it being unreliable.

Lo m8 :)

Umm mine was on the cheap side but they average between 500-2k and 5kish for 06 3.2 .

But just look at the pics . it may have been cheap and have a few minor issues but its in fine fettle .

And its not a dodgy Auto . it uses a very robust zf box and as long as you protect the ecu they very rarley cause an issue . Also given how few were sold manuals are rare and expensive . Remember this is not a sports car . Its a luxury saloon and the auto suits it well .

Yes they are abit riskier than other luxury bangers but if u cover the the common faults there fine .

Hmm, maybe I shouldn't have overlooked them so quickly. I suspect my Volvo auto's in a better state and with less funny noises at 300,000 km though :p

I was sorely tempted by a facelift 3.2 but at 7-8 grand for good ones over here it seemed rather a lot..

Enjoy it!

Comon issues are the heater matrix leaking and dripping on the gearbox ecu / cables
Rear knuckle joint wearing (£300 from Alfa or £10 from mercedes)
Wear on inside of front tyres
A few niggly elictrical problems but all easy to fix
Cambelt every 60k (£350 from a specialist)

Thats the major issues .. Obviously other things pop up but there the know onjes that have to be looked at if yer looking at a 166

Persil

You took yer time!! :D

Why do i feel nervous now hehe

Don't let him make you feel nervous, he doesn't bite ;)

Having owned an alfa of this age, with the same engine, luck really does come into it.

Fuel economy will probably be on the shocking side of dreadful and you probably will have the odd electrical issue - some parts of my old 156 were entirely held together with scotch locks.

But as a previous owner has demonstrated, they can generate massive bills. If it was mine and a similar bill came up again, I probably wouldn't bother fixing it and just sell it for a few hundred quid to someone who wants to break it - all you'll have lost would be a few hundred quid for the sake of How ever many weeks/months/years ownership of a car that looks like that.....could be worse :)
