Hi all, I'm looking for a 5.1 speaker set up for my new living room / home cinema set up in our cellar conversion.

I used to own the logitech z-5500 but I sold these to help fund the conversion.

I've been looking at the Onkyo HT-S5305B 3D Ready 5.1 AV Receiver and Speaker Package.
how do these rate?

I've got a budget of approx £300

The Onkyo setup is pretty good for the cash. you get a separate amplifier which can be upgraded in the future if you wish as well as proper speakers so you can change them without needing a new Amp. You'd also be hard pressed to get the same feature set in a separate combo.

sorry to hijack the thread, but what exactly makes a set of speakers 3D ready? (sorry if its a noobish question)

What's the difference between the HT-S5305B and the HT-S3305B?

The 5305 has a proper sub-woofer output on a coax connector. The sub for the kit is mains powered.

The 3305 has a passive sub which is driven like an ordinary speaker. AFAIK there's no subwoofer pre-out on a coax connector; only a speaker connection. It limits some of the upgrade options a little. The 3305 sub can't be used with any other AV amp for example, and if you wanted to upgrade the speakers for the 3305 kit you'd have to buy a sub with a speaker-level input.

The 5305 doesn't have these limitations. The speakers can be used with any other proper AV amp, so they'd have more value second hand. :)
