mondeo st tdci problem

well all of a sudden its loosing power and throwing out lots of black smoke when i put power on, now this happend a while ago and one of the pipes had split but they all look fine to me (gonna have a better look tommorow) no lights on the dash or anything..

all i have done recently is top up the oil..
any ideas ?

wasnt a tuning box, but i take it easy most days

deffo not too much oil in it, got a mechanic to do it

Sounds like it's thrown an injector - remaps and harsh driving are normally the cause. If it spews out smoke when you start it from cold, it's almost certainly an injector

well when i rev it hard its making a strange noise from the turbo... so could be... it cant be injectors its only had a new set on it and done about 10,000 milesnot even that

id put a bet on split hose causing the smoke

a friend of mine just got a mondeo diesel (tdci). on start up it sounds extremely rough, by diesel standards. is that typical for mondeos? his sounds pretty broken

yup - especially for the ST. When warmed it sounds smoother

mines a bit rich at startup I'm convicing myself its the glow plugs

once warm his sounds like a normal diesel, quite smooth tbh but on start up you expect to see the engine drop out from the engine bay

Sounds like a split pipe to me or an EGR valve problem. The most likely place is down the front of the engine bay on the pax side - there's a big pipe down there reinforced with metal - you might not see the split until you get some load on the engine because the metal binds it together until the pressure in the pipe is high, then the hole opens and you lose boost and get smoke because of the lack of air.

Injector problems are more prevalent at low revs and tend to cause a horrible noise rather than smoke.

DMF if its a rattly noise on startup
