Stock cooler.

Im thinking i really need a bigger cooler but im really not sure what to go with. I dont want to be spending £50 on heatsinks anymore.

I have got a unused K8-TDX watercooling kit, maybe i should mod that and watercool my i5?

Seems on the hot side. Stock cooler is gash but should perform better than that. As aboe, check that your motherboard is setting the correct voltage and that your cpu cooler is mounted correctly.

It is always a better idea to buy aftermarket cooler whenever one purchases a cpu. A stock cooler is mainly good for stock speeds or maybe 100/200MHz of extra overclocked performance and thats it.

stock cooler is the smallest cooler i've ever had. Even my PIII500e had a bigger cooler (although a lot more simpler). I cant believe its only a inch high, cooling 4 cores!

Voltage is 1.144 currently. Case is currently open but i have a 120mm fan front and rear.

These temps are with Prime95, 4 cores, blend test.

Does seem a bit hot. Check that your other voltages are not too high as vCore seems fine. You might want to reseat the cooler and TM that you used.

My 750 was up in the high 70's when I put it up to 3.2 running on full load with the stock cooler, so I am going to say the stock cooler being weedy is to blame

after market cooler
get some tim/remover and apply
or remove if aftermarket cooler comes with decent enough tim
check the case airflow and manage accordingly
job done

I'm not sure where to go for coolers some look so heavy for 4 plastic pins to hold in. The last heat sink I brought was a microchill extreme made by the guys that made vapochill freezers. Simple and effective, yet not made anymore? So what should I go for, keeping under £30ish?

Also would my artic silver 3 be ineffective now after 5 years?

I have a 760 at 3.4 (3.87 turbo) and the H50 works brilliantly, idles at 25-35c and hits around 55-65c under heavy load (LinX).

ive looked into H50s a little bit for my old setup and the thing that shocked me was that while idle temps are much better than air cooling, the load temps are rather poor?

I wouldn't call ~60c load temps poor....

The H50 is really good, comparable to High End air cooling - but without the massive weight on the motherboard. It's not £30 tho, more like £70-80 once you factor in some new fans.

My idle temps are crap, but my idle to load delta is around 25C. Thats the same sort of figures you'd get with a big cooler like a Megahelems or TRUE. I don't have half a kilo of aluminium hanging off my motherboard either :)
