Dell U2311H warranty issue

This is a grumble I have will buying Dell monitors from anyone other than Dell. OcUK, like many other vendors, buy their Dell monitors from another company that buys them from Dell directly. With two suppliers in the chain between end users and Dell it's extremely unlikely to be in the 30 day window on any purchase.

Based on this thread(and many more on the web!!) I have totally gone off the prospect of buying a Dell "U" series monitor - lovely as they are.

The current cost of a lottery ticket is £1
Not £250 or £400 and last time I checked, Camelot were running the show:)

I really think that as a responsible etailer, OCUK should be stepping forward & clarifying this 30 day situation as well as the replacement refurb carp that Dell are getting away with.

When Dell used to only sell directly I could understand that they may not have had a mechanism in place to deal with this kind of resale. However now that they sell their products officially via some third parties they must have some mechanism to consider date of purchase unless the stores that sell their equipment have to agree to handle 30 day exchanges themselves.

I informed OCuk of the situation a few days ago and referred them to this thread for the detailed info, no reply as of yet but I'd expect one by tomorrow really.

Yesterday I noticed a blue stuck pixel on all white backdrops, I had to laugh, the funny thing is I still really like these screens for the price, the first one I had was immaculate, picture wise at least. :(

Dell's quality control department apparently have real issues picking up on these things.

I'll post tomorrow and update on the situation for those who are interested.

Cheers

I finally got a reply from Overclockers, they're unfortunately refusing to refund me or replace the screen with a new one, the most they can offer is to return the screen to Dell for me, using the exact same procedure, meaning I'd end up with another refurb...

Obviously this isn't good enough and I've registered with MCOL as a preliminary step, £30 is a bargain price to defend my principles.

So does OcUK honour the 3 year warranty if I always deal through them? I had decided to get this monitor if my DGM 24" dies again. :/

I did ask a rep this question last week when I first contacted OCuk, he said yes, Overclockers would cover the screen for the full three years, I'm not sure if he was saying this to cement his argument that I should *not* have returned the screen to Dell but eitherway those are the words that came out of his mouth.

Ask dell to replace with a new one and charge OCUK with replacement costs

That would sound like an ideal solution but I think it'd end up being overly complicated, I'm sending overclockers a final notice before I make a claim, hopefully they will acquiesce, given the fact that I've been a customer for years and have spent more money with them than I'd care to calculate.

i love lookign at old threads "especiialy mine" :D

try that link mate .. shows you a few things ...a nice part being :-

"If you sell goods that don't conform to contract - that aren't as described, are unfit for their purpose or of unsatisfactory quality - you are legally obliged to resolve the problem if your customers seek redress.

The Sale of Goods Act states that if customers want to reject faulty goods, they have to do so within a 'reasonable time'. A legal definition of 'reasonable' is not given though - it varies from case to case and could be just a few weeks from the date of purchase.

If a customer rejects faulty goods within this 'reasonable' period, they're entitled to ask for their money back. All customers can claim compensation at any time if they choose. If you sell to consumers - not other traders - they can ask for a repair or a replacement immediately (instead of asking for a refund) at any time until six years after purchase."

YOU CAN get a refund

I had the same issue with Dell - A few years back i paid a lot of money for my 7950GTX video card for my XPS M1710 laptop. Had to send it back as it failed in a week, got a replacement that was a so called refurb. Failed too, then they sent me another refurb, that failed again. Got another refurb, built a custom memory heatsink and never had anymore trouble. Having spent over 6k on Dell laptops in the last 10 years, Dell are generally good and sort things out quickly, i was narked that even thought i bought a brand new component they replaced it with a refurbed part. Its still going well now tho so no complaints. In your case i'd return to OC for an exchange.

This thread has really put me off buying Dell. There is no way I would spend hundreds of pounds on something to find it is defective and be fobbed off with a second hand "refurbished" part. You wouldn't buy a car or TV or anything else and expect to be given a refurbished one as a replacement for a faulty new one!

I've got a reply from a fellow called Chris Montgomery at Overclockers, I offered to accept a replacement (new) screen from their own stock and they have accepted.

Problem solved for now, obviously it still will not be fully covered by Dell but I can live with this, assuming the replacement screen has no faults.

Fingers crossed :)
