what do they stand to achieve giving me a small leaflet talking about the bible?, i mean surely there just wasting time?

They are spreading the word.
You see them as wasting their time, but if they convert 1 non believer, then they believe they have done their job.

I;m not sure. Someone must read them but it isn't anyone i know. I don't know anyone that reads anything pushed into their hand by a random on the street. Always goes in a bin.

I mean why wouldnt he be working fulltime , rather than handing out stupid leaflets that achieve nothing?
or are they paid todo it?

Just how weak or impressionable a mind must someone have to convert their faith by reading a pamphlet?

Even if I were to read it (I wouldn't, I probably wouldn't have even let them place it in my hand, whatever the product, service or religion), it wouldn't change my beliefs or mindset about anything at all.

Just as you believe that working fulltime is the 'ideal' thing for you, they believe that handing out those leaflets and converting you is the 'ideal' thing for them.

Just different views.

so why do they prefer to live a poor life style and care for others?, wtf are they irish

Guess they think they're being humble and immaterialistic.

I don't mind what they do, but it annoys me when I find my mailbox filled with their and other religious leaflets.

It depends on the person and the religious group they belong to - some churches or denominations have people on their "staff" to hand out the leaflets/knock on doors etc and their needs are covered by the church, others simply choose to hand out the leaflets/knock on doors to spread the word because they believe they're helping, others still do it because it's a requirement of their church and they get no remuneration from it at all.

I can't say it's something that I'd particularly like to do but if they're not harming anyone and they respect peoples choice not to believe then I don't have a problem with it.

I was standing outside my work once with a can of drink in one hand, and a cigarette in the other when a joho accosted me. I said to him that I was just about to go into work and was busy, gesturing to my full hands and the fact it was about two minutes to nine, and the cheeky **** opened my shirt pocket and put his stupid leaflet it in it.

I nearly exploded with indignant rage. Of course I said and did nothing.

In my first year of uni someone was handind out new testaments. They insisted I took one, so I did and I used it as a door wedge for my room.

The cleaner went mad! Most useful bible I have ever had!

They are everywhere and so persistent...the amount of times I've had crap come through my door spouting how Jesus loves me.

The worse is a night out in Swansea, at around 00:00 they all swarm out with baptist pamphlets and give them to drunk people, the front cover saying 'Is this the best it gets?'

All they are doing is causing a bloody mess, and it's not as if saying no will stop them handing it to you...

*edit*

I'm wondering now how long it will take until the OcUK brigade will come, saying how we're being so intolerant, racist and bigotted.

Don't those unicef/charity guys that stand on the street asking for your bank details get paid £10 an hour or something?

Lol, seems like a decent wage for a 18/21 year old.
