i've had my orange contract since december 08, £25 pm for dolphin (i did get a free nintendo wii!) and orange just called, offering me a new phone. i said i didn't want anything fancy, so they offered me a low range sony (zylo - not the best of phones but i'm not interested in phones aslong as they take and recieve calls) for £17.50 pm with 400 minutes (twice as many minutes as i currently get) for a 24 month contract. i was on the phone for nearly 20 minutes, trying to get the price down more and the saleswoman just wouldn't budge, i wouldn't budge either and no sale was made.
could she have budged? i understand it's a deal lower than what i currently pay but i was thinking that she could've budged some more. i asked if she could do the first 3 months at £15 pm and she said she could not. was i right to hold out or when these people say they can't budge on phones are they telling the truth? i thought she could possibly well have been as it would've been silly of her to let a 24 month contract slip away for sacrifice of £7.50. she said she had discounted as much as she could (based on loyalty) and just couldn't do anymore.

Do what I do. Ring back and speak to a different person, and ask them to budge, maybe some will and some won't. Depends on who is on the other side and what kind of person they are.

Totally depends on their sales system, some will only let you apply certain deals/discounts.

Your best bet is to threaten to leave and speak to their loyalty/retentions department, who will have access to more/better deals, or just jump ship, take out a new contract on another network, and port your number.
