Going to be doing some driving around Florida next week and got my USA map on my sat nav. Just a quick question though, what info will I need to put in for addresses? Over here we just stick a postcode in and it comes up with the street etc. Do I just need the numbers (zip code I think) and stick them in or do I need the whole address? Just want to make sure I take the right info with me.

Yup, street name and a number will do you fine. Make sure you update your map to the latest though as the last time we drove around there they had updated the freeways and we kept missing turnings as the SatNav was still on the old layout.

TBH, it's pretty easy to find your way around Florida though so there's no need to worry. Once you have your barings (sp?!) you'll be fine.

I've been twice before but this time we are going to drive to Clearwater and Miami as we've already done the Disney thing.

Given that its the most clearly road-signed and simple road-layout place I've ever been (the whole of Flow Rida, not just Orange County), I'd be surprised if you need sat-nav at all.

I know I didn't use it once over the last two weeks and I had a garmin, google maps navigation for android, and the Hertz NeverLost system in the car. But then I have been 3 times.

it might be wise

Its not like you need a map, but it makes it a lot more stress free.

It really didn't, the one time I did use it (to get from the airport to the hotel), I wanted to shout at the stupid satnav woman for a) taking us the longest and most ridiculous (and toll-filled) route possible and b) for having two completely different voices, one for directions and one for road names (the road names voice was undeniably retarded).

How can you get lost on a network of straight roads that are clearly signed at every intersection?

It's no wonder all their roads are straight, whenever they hit a corner (such as an interstate on ramp), they slow to 5 MPH I can only assume because they are unable to comprehend that cars can actually take corners at paces above that of walking speed. Needless to say most of my overtaking was on interstate on-ramps.

Agreed, Orlando is very very easy to navigate, and the Sat Nav makes it more complicated rather then easier.

Some seem to make extra turns to save like 20 seconds of time, rather then just going direct.

I didnt take one

and ended up going Northbound on I4 instead of southbound As it didnt say I4 North / South it Had I4, then the place it ended up, but neither of those where were i wanted to go and didnt know if they were north or south or not !!

Hertz NeverLost was great when i went to my freinds wedding in the states,
2 weeks i used it everytime i got in the car, got me from orlando to all the parks, plus shops and malls, then all the way to gulf shores alabama and mobile alabama.

You want to pop to wallmart, type in wallmart and it will tell you the closest store.
same for gamestop or any other store you can think of, its yellowpages in a satnav.

Well for starters, the I4 from International Drive/Orlando/Kissimmee area is signed as east and west not north/south, it's incredibly well signed.

It's not bad but it has a number of huge flaws - like displaying a diagram of the next junction on the screen when you get close enough. This sounds great in theory but when you are doing 60mph and its an interstate exit followed immediatly by a fork and by the time you get the map back you realise you are 4 lanes away from the side of the fork you want, it gets very old very fast.

Plus the rate they charge for it is obscene - I got it free.

I didnt have a paper map in front of me and only remembered to go south so i had to guess.
