is the p2450h worth the little bit of extra money over the B2430H. I notice that the reponse time is said to be lower. IS there any other reasons why you should go for one over the other?

I think PCM2 has summed it up nicely.

I recently chose and shelled out for the P2450H. I can recommend it highly. Having said that, I haven`t seen the B2430H. I`m guessing there`s not a lot of difference in picture quality. The 2430 is slightly cheaper, so if you like the look of it, I`d say that PCM2`s recommendation should be trusted. If you like the squarer look, I can honestly say that I`m very pleased with my monitor.

BTW I did ponder long and hard over which monitor to buy, but eventually narrowed it down to a Samsung, then the P2450H. Not an easy choice of PC Tech, but what is ?

Thanks. I was swaying towards the Dell ultrasharp after a previous thread. But my sisters happy to take my current monitor off my hands which is actually a TV and give me some money towards a new one.
I think when i next do an upgrade i may be looking at a 3d screen. So seems silly to pay the extra money for a dell screen. A lot of people seem to praise the B2430H so tempted to go with that to save the money.

I have ordered the B2430H, the free shipping through the forum is a really great idea. Thanks PCM2 for all your input over the last month summing up the different monitors. Im sure that i am going to be impressed by the B2430H especially as iv been used to a 26inch 1368x768 res TV/monitor.

It has arrived. Just busy putting it together. Only gripe so far is that it doesnt come with a DVI cable. Just a VGA. I have a dvi-hdmi adaptor which i got with my gpu and have been using with my previous monitor, so that will have to do for now, but ideally am i right in thinking i need a DVI cable to get the most out of it, rather than the converter. Or am i fine with dvi-hdmi untill i need to connect another hdmi device ?

PCM2 are there any things i should be doing to calibrate my monitor?

Really the processing of the monitor is good enough using a D-sub/VGA signal. They include that cable because it is a little cheaper but also because it is so widely compatible and doesn't show degredation in image quality on that particular monitor vs. a digital cable. Having said that I would also be a bit paranoid about it and would prefer a digital cable since it does have those connectors. HDMI to DVI is absolutely fine, too.

As for 'calibration' I wouldn't spend too much time on this but do set the gamma mode to 'mode 2' and then run the Windows 7 calibration tool and go through that. Just set the brightness and contrast to the levels you feel comfortable with and test these during common applications you'll be using. I would also advise lowering the blue slider towards the end of the wizard slightly (perhaps 4 notches) as the B2430H does seem to have a minor blue tint by default.

Ok i will stick with the dvi-hdmi adaptor untill the time i ever want to plug a hdmi device in permanently then.
I have adjusted brightness down and had a play with the settings and think iv got it the way i want it.

Iv played a few maps on call of duty and i can definitly tell the difference. The clarity is a lot nicer, it picks up more detail which i assume is due to the change of the resolution. There also seems to be a lot more difference in the colours, more vibrant and more contrast between the blacks and the colours.

Its also a much better size for sitting infront of, and the tilt action is good, as im coming from a TV that could only swivel. Thanks for all the advice PCM2, i would agree that for the money it is a great monitor. Lets just hope your still around when the OLED monitors come out and i need advice for purchasing one of them too!

Don't you worry I'm not going anywhere. And I really can't wait to start reviewing and advising about the OLEDs when the time comes.

I am expecting my B2430H to arrive tomorrow at my parents house. I will be driving to grab it when I can. I actually cannot wait to up DAO from 1680x1050 to 1080. Also because I am entering my 3rd year of uni next week, it will be nice to have a fresh monitor to work with.

OK so I got this today and I am impressed. At first I was worried at the screen was VERY bright and seemed wrong some how, but after a Windows Calibration its really looking good. Tried a few DVDs and they look most impressive. Dragon Age at 1080 is very pretty too, although I might need to get that other HD4870 just to rid of a slight sutter. Really worth my money!

Glad you like it. I'm not pushing out the recommendation so heavily for nothing. ;)
