Anyone know why he did this? (police brutality)

Do be quiet. I've watched that back about six times now and it's clear as anything that the police officer intended to knock the cyclist off. He saw him approaching and was beginning to place himself to do just that, there is not indication of the officer ever intending to simply reach the pavement. To say otherwise is just complete rubbish.

In fact, if you watch the video from the start, you can quite clearly see the officers looking for someone. I'd wager a guess that the officer thought the cyclist was the person they were looking for.

Still, stupid thing to do.

Looks like he was trying to cross the road and ran to avoid the bike that was turning into his line of path and accidentally ran into it.

If your crossing a road and it suddenly looks like your about to be run down by a car you don't always make the best decision its obvious the cop thought he could speed up and make the pavement in time and the cyclist thought he could swerve around in front of the cop and get through.

he he wasn't about to be hit, he had to speed up and run at the bike to catch it in time.

If you watch carefully they are looking for an opening to get out of the middle of the road - both officers see a potential opening and react to it turning and moving towards the pavement... watch carefully the other officer on the right this is key. The officer involved in the unfortunate collision made a bad call and thought he could get across before the cyclist that is all.

EDIT: If you dig a bit deeper its a far from straight forward story... the cyclist was almost certainly high, has priors for traffic accidents involving "bad judgement" (possibly due to the influence of drugs tho not recorded) and was apparently out to cause trouble that day (and has done in the past). There have been concerns about the officer involved being both inexperienced and over confident along the lines of someone having watched too many cop movies and wanting a bit of that action.

If theres an obvious load of bicycles coming down the road at some speed, why would you stand in the middle of the road and expect the cyclists not to hit you, then when they do come close, push them off?!

Police stupidity leading to forced brutality.

That was blatantly premeditated, completely unnecessary aggressive behavior. I can not believe the horrible little pig **** didn't get done for assault, how ridiculous.

Sorry Rroff but you are wrong on this one, the cop knew what he was going todo he even took big steps to move into the cyclists path then stuck out his shoulder to knock the block off his bike.

Seems a bit random running and pushing someone off their bike, does it not? :p

The action wasn't random it was premeditated by the officer. As for pushing the cyclist off his bike that is incorrect, he was rammed with the intention of being stopped in his tracks. Most notable evidence is the stance, the officer placed his left hand by his right hip and made his may to where he believed himself and cyclist would meet. Note, he was running in the slow motion clip to get to the cyclist, then he bent his legs and pushed all the force into his left arm. Also note that this is the best way to stop / knock off a cyclist on a bike. Using your hands could mean an injured hand or fingers at the point of impact, hence why the upper arm is a proffered means. Most likely the officer ordered the cyclist to stop and he or she refused or misheard the instruction, forcing said officer to take action.

hardly police brutality . just miscommunication. both are stupid imo.

biker could have stopped and cop shouldn't be jay walking since it's illegal to do so.

Nasty accident there but at least the cyclist was in the road unlike this country where they all use the pavement, even when there's a cycle lane!

I'll stick up for the Police at every opportunity but that guy thrust himself into the cyclist with his forearm.
I see somebody making a decision to knock the cyclist over.

Unless you're blind or stupid I don't understand how you can even question this.

You can't go insulting people because they have a different view.
They are seeing something we don't see.

Because they can - the Police can do whatever they damned well like, even more so in the USA than in the UK

The cyclist should be grateful he wasn't shot.

He sped up to get out the way of the cyclist it was obviously one of those situations where neither quite knew quite what the other was doing. At the moment of impact the officer put out his hands to protect himself. Its very clear if you watch the video with an open unbias mind.

The cyclist is the one who should if any be done for assault even in the US they should give way to pedestrians instead he tried to rush on through even tho the officer had been moving towards the pavement for several seconds - long enough for them to slow down and let him get out the way.

That is clearly not what happened, neither does it even look like like that.

The officer clearly targeted that particular cyclist and purposely took him off his bike.

Now was the cyclist a known criminal or wanted on a warrant of some mind, who can tell so while I am not dating that the Officer was not justified in his actions, those action were clearly not accidental as you contend.
