hi there,

I have an office outside a London Underground station.

I want to market my business and was planning to send a text at peak times to all people getting off the train, something short and sweet letting them know I exist and I am there

Does anyone know what this system is called? or know of any companies that provide such a service?

Please help

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Can you fit this in one text?

"Hi, I run a business sending targetted unsolicited bulk advertising to people because I want to violate your privacy while I annoy you. My office is just a few yards away, please come and shout at me."

What you're planning might be illegal. It's certainly an excellent way to annoy large numbers of people who might otherwise have been potential customers.

EDIT: It would have a slight amusement value as several hundred mobile phones warble various different text received sounds every time a train pulls in. Which might be every couple of minutes in some tube stations. You'd get publicity, that's for sure, but not the good kind.

I've had 3 marketing texts just today. Annoys the hell out of me and I tend to delete without reading. Bad idea!

Sandwich board man sounds like it'd be much cheaper and equally ineffective :p

In the past I had a couple of things come over bluetooth, I think from the venues I was in at the time. 'Accept so and so?' a game or message or whatever. It made me froth with self-righteous rage about having my personal device infringed upon.

It happened just a few times and it must be 4 years ago at least now, I don't suppose it caught on for all the same reasons this wouldn't. At best people will ignore it, at worst they will be filled with indignant fury.

The problem I always had was by the time I checked my phone and saw a 'Accept Bluetooth Request' I was 10 miles away so couldn't receive the item if I tried :p

I know that when you walk into *competitor*'s sales floor they automatically send you their store logo over bluetooth, I always thought that was pretty cool

See that'd just really grate on me. Why? What's it for?

People are ALREADY in the shop. All you can do at that point is make them annoyed, maybe to the point they'll leave.

If they send stuff to my phone just for walking in, what's going to turn up if I actually buy something?
