They're usually quite fair and it does state in the T&C's (legally binding) that they will charge you for this, that and the other.

Anywho, usually if you phone up and rant on that it's an excessive amount to charge for so little, they will prob wipe it, but be polite.

Had a similar with online banking, said that I was overdrawn even though my online statement said I wasn't because I placed the money in that day but still got charged, had a rant how they need to change the way they display things, blah blah blah, was polite all the time and they said they'd waive the fee.

Why not just check your banking online? I check mine every day or two just to ensure all is well and I'm not overdrawn or something similar, takes all of 30seconds

That's a waste of £35 a year then, I get £500 for no fee and I've gone into it once...

Not really. If the poop hits the propeller and I lose my job or who knows what, I can borrow £3.5k with trivial ease at a miniscule interest rate where I'd otherwise have to use a credit card or take out a loan at a less favourable rate.

I wouldn't like to do it that way, I'd rather have savings as a buffer...

i have an overdaft but its maxed out already, i maxed it the day i got it

Ah. Suspect you're quite a bit less likely to get sympathy from the bank if you already owe them however many hundred pounds worth of overdraft... I think the financial management advice is worth heeding in this case!

It's banking's version of Darwinism.

We can more easily identify those who are too stupid to realise that they are incapable of either:-

Earning more.
Spending less.
Contingency planning by getting a larger overdraft and not 'maxxin' it out.

The consequences benefit us all. The offenders starve because they can no longer afford to buy food, and those that survive, out themselves by whinging and attempting to shift blame that lies squarely at their own door & we then know who to shoot.

Natural selection.

Or if you're really smart you put money away each week/month for a rainy day.

You agreed to the charges when you signed up for the account.

Saying "But I didn't know I was overdrawn for 2 days!" doesn't make it any better, it's your money after all, meaning it is your responsibility to know where it is and how much is left of it.

the £ at the back is not retarded, it is ingenious.

actually by tommorow it will be 5 days

One thing I've always hated is people who live in their overdrafts. Sort your bloody finances out then and only then can complain.

Whilst working within the RBS group I've seen people sitting at 4K overdrawn for years, don't they realise they have to pay that back?
