I though referal links were frowned apon here? (the one in yor sig Monster Ninja)

Anyhoo, as Grimley said plus a good cooler if you don't have one. Also consider the hex core CPUs, there within your budget. More software is making use of more cores so they may have a bit more staying power than a quad

i got a h50 and for xmas i am getting a 800d water cooling "kit" Overclockers sell and build http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-023-OE

yeah unless is it worth getting the 965/970? there only £20-£30 cheaper anyways thanks again :) forgot to say i will be overclocking or using the overclocking button on the mobo
cus the 970 with a 30% overclock would be running at 4.55ghz

I don't think spending the extra money on a 965 or a 970 is going to be worth it if you are using the new rig for gaming. Better off spending the extra cash on a better graphics card.

2x5850s, an Asus Corsair IV Formula combined with a 6 core phenom 2 black edition makes my pants tighten with excitement just to think of it. You can get that and 4gb of good ram with £50 to spare easily on a £500 budget and would end up with a powerhouse system that wont need to be upgraded for quite some time, and great overclock potential.

tbh id go with the 6 core just to do justice to your mobo, thats a top end state of the art mobo and it deserves the very best :)

You will have insane epeen style bragging rights with the 6 core and a crosshair iv running 2x 5850s.
